‘RHOA’ alum Kandi Burruss reveals secret behind incredible weight loss
ATLANTA, GEORGIA: Kandi Burruss has bid farewell to 'The Real Housewives of Atlanta' and shed a few pounds in the process. After announcing her exit from 'RHOA' in February following 14 seasons, Kandi recently shared with her Instagram followers that stepping away has been positively transformative for both her mind and body. "I’m feeling good about myself right now!" Kandi said in an August 1 post. "19lbs down! 🙌🏾," she wrote
Regarding the reason behind the Grammy Award winner's weight reduction quest, Kandi had previously revealed that she reached 170 pounds earlier this year. This came shortly after she announced her departure from 'RHOA' after 14 seasons on the show.
Kandi and her musical female group XSCAPE are gearing up for a 30-date summer tour with SWV. In a June interview with US Weekly, Kandi revealed that she lost 10 pounds after she departed from 'RHOA.'
Kandi said, "I’ve had really great energy, which has come in handy because I’m rehearsing a lot lately, and it’s been helping me curb my appetite. Like, no desserts. I haven’t even craved them how I normally do. I’ve cut back on all the junk food that I was eating."
The reality star revealed she had "really gained a lot of weight in the past year," which coincided with a major professional choice. "I was living my best life. I stopped doing Housewives, so I was like, 'I can eat good, I can relax, I can travel,'" she added.
Kandi Burruss shares moment 'RHOA' alum decided to lose weight
In an interview with Page Six's Virtual Reali-Tea podcast, Kandi revealed that she decided to lose weight after her husband, Todd Tucker, posted a video from her birthday party. Although most comments were supportive and celebratory, Kandi noted that some focused solely on her weight gain.
"That was it for me," she revealed on the podcast. "Something about turning 48, I was like, 'I definitely want to live my best life, but I want to be one of those chicks that, always, you can never tell my age by the way I look.'"
'RHOA' alum Kandi Burruss claims not losing weight while on Ozempic
Kandi decided to test Ozempic, a diabetic medicine that has been reported to cause weight loss, before embarking on her 2024 health push. Kandi acknowledged, nevertheless, that her Ozempic experience was brief since she saw no outcomes. "So last year, I tried it," she said.
Kandi added, "I saw so many people who were trying it and losing weight. So I was like, 'OK, I’m going to try this.' And I didn’t lose any weight. Everybody kept trying to say, 'Oh, something must be wrong’ or ‘You need a higher dosage, or this, or that.’.. It didn’t curb my appetite. I know some people are like, 'Oh, I can’t eat.' Not me! I was eating appetizers, a regular meal and dessert, OK? It didn’t stop anything for me… It doesn’t work for everybody."
She added, "The sad thing about it is, when you see it worked for other people, and it doesn’t work for you, it makes you depressed. Realistically, it makes you feel like, ‘What is wrong? Why is it not working for me?'"
'RHOA' alum Kandi Burruss partnered up with weight loss supplements brand
Kandi has teamed up with Hydroxycut, a non-prescription weight loss brand, to help her reach her ideal weight. In her chat with Virtual Reali-Tea, she also mentioned that she's working with a fitness trainer and enhancing her nutrition to support her goals. "My ultimate goal is, basically, to lose 20 pounds — get back to where I was last year," she noted.
"But I would love, love to overall lose 30 [pounds] so I can be into my 130s. I haven’t weighed 130-something since I was 30-something. It’s been years since I’ve felt I was real slim and trim — slim thick, as I like to call it. It’s been a minute, and I would just love to see myself get back to that, to my best self."
