BEVERLY HILLS, CALIFORNIA: The magic of Elvis Presley has taken over the Golden Globes as Austin Butler took home the Best Actor in a Motion Picture (Drama) accolade for his impeccable performance in Baz Luhrmann’s critically-acclaimed ‘Elvis’. The Australian-born actor portrayed the role of the iconic musician in the movie and took everyone by storm with a performance that floored everyone.

The category was stuffed with amazing actors who gave splendid performances, but Butler was always considered to be one of the frontrunners for the accolade. Other actors nominated for the trophy were Brendan Fraser (‘The Whale’), Bill Nighy (‘Living’), Hugh Jackman (‘The Son’), and Jeremy Pope (‘The Inspection’).

The movie primarily focused on Presley’s rise to fame in the music industry. The musician didn’t start his career as he would have wanted but he quickly became one of the most influential musicians in the world and saw unprecedented stardom.

It also follows his relationship with his enigmatic manager Colonel Tom Parker (Tom Hanks) over the course of 20 years. From being an unknown to becoming the King of Rock n Roll, Presley’s journey has been inspiring and controversial as well.

“Oh, man, all my words are leaving me. I just am so grateful right now. I’m in this room full of my heroes,” Butler said before voicing his admiration for Brad Pitt and Quentin Tarantino.

Butler continued, “I owe this to a bold, visionary filmmaker who allowed me the experience to take risks and I always knew I would be supported. I love you, Baz Luhrmann. Thank you for believing in me in those moments that I didn’t even believe in myself. I’m so grateful to you. I also want to thank my dance partner, the greatest dance partner I could have ever hoped for, Mr Tom Hanks.”

He concluded his speech by thanking Denzel Washington, his family, and Elvis Presley. “Lastly, Elvis Presley himself, you are an icon and a rebel. I love you so much. Thank you. You are remembered and I will never forget thank you!”

However, social media had mixed feelings about Butler winning the trophy and went on to say that Brendan Fraser was "robbed" for his superlative performance in Darren Aronofsky’s ‘The Whale’. One of the social media users said, “Austin Butler just became a superstar.” Another social media user wrote, “Brendan Fraser was robbed.”

One fan tweeted, “Good performance but Brendan deserved this.” Another social media user tweeted, “Pathetic. Brendan Fraser was robbed because Hollywood is full of creatures. Unbelievable. Fraser, your prime has just begun. Screw an award.”
