Watch: Foo Fighters perform on roof of a house at Brit Awards 2018
The band also won in the International Group category for the fourth time, beating Arcade Fire, LCD Soundsystem, HAIM and The Killers.
Foo Fighters took to the stage at the Brit Awards on Wednesday night to perform 'Sky is a Neighborhood' on top of the roof of a makeshift house, recreating the official music video for the single which features on their 2017 album Concrete and Gold.
The performance was reminiscent of the Beatles’ rooftop concert almost 40 years ago. Bands that have paid homage to the rooftop gig include Radiohead and System of a Down, and now Dave Grohl and the rest of the gang seem to have brought the concept to an awards show. The "hastily constructed ski chalet" as host Jake Whitehall called it, was set against a moon and starlit sky backdrop, and the performance got the audience headbanging to the arena anthem styled song.
Foo Fighters, of course, are usual suspects at the Brit Awards, having won five BRIT awards over the course of their career, but last night marked the first instance of the group performing on stage at the event.
They also took home the International Group award for the fourth time, beating LCD Soundsystem, Arcade Fire, HAIM, and The Killers. The band won in the category previously in 2008 (they also won for International Album that year), 2012 and 2015.
While collecting their Best International Group trophy from Tottenham Hotspurs striker Harry Kane and pop star Camila Cabello, Grohl said: “Thank you very much for this award. This means a lot to us because we’ve been coming to the UK for 20-some years now. We’ve always considered this place a second home."
“You’ve been the best audience in the world. You taught us how to be a band, so thank you very much for this award.”
