'Even Nick Fury can be shaken'

During the promotion of the upcoming mini-series 'Secret Invasion', Jackson, in a recent interview with Vanity Fair, opened up about several things MCU, including how the death of Tony Stark has affected Nick. Nick has been hardly seen in any of the movies after the epic finale of 'Avengers: Endgame'. Jackson revealed that the reason for Nick's absence from the MCU is that he has also been pretty shaken up after the traumatic incidents of the Endgame and has been trying to process it, particularly the deaths of Iron Man and Black Widow.

The reason makes sense as the deceased superhero was from the start of the 'Avengers' movie franchise and had a close relationship with Nick, apart from Captain Marvel (Carol Danvers). "Even Nick Fury can be shaken, you know? He’s up there trying to process what the f**k happened, you know? And what his place in the world is.The death of Iron Man, the death of Black Widow, with that stuff going on he just kind of checked out."

No iconic eye patch

'Secret Invasion' taps into some of the newer territories in the MCU and it featured the group of otherworldly shapeshifters, Skrulls, after 'Captain Marvel' and 'Spider-Man: Far From Home'. In the released teaser for 'Secret Invasion', Nick is seen without his signature eye patch. While speaking about the matter, Jackson related the loss of his eye patch to the vulnerability Nick is feeling at the moment.

Nick is always seen as an indestructible person and now things seem to feel different as the defences are down in his world. Jackson said, "He just doesn’t wear the patch. The patch is part of who the strong Nick Fury was. It’s part of his vulnerability now. You can look at it and see he’s not this perfectly indestructible person. He doesn’t feel like that guy."

'Secret Invasion', the six-part mini-series, is set to premiere exclusively on Disney+ on June 21, 2023.
