‘You can’t refute that’: Samuel L Jackson SLAMS Quentin Tarantino for saying Marvel actors are 'not movie stars'
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: "When life gives you a lemon, make lemonade"- Samuel L Jackson seized his opportunity during an interview to challenge renowned director Quentin Tarantino after the latter's remark on Marvel actors. 'The Pulp Fiction' director during a podcast recently shared his view on how he thinks Marvel Cinematic Universe's actors and actresses are not particularly "movie stars." Perhaps what he meant is the character, 'Ironman' is the movie star and not Robert Downey Jr, meaning the fans come to the theaters for the characters and not the actors playing them. Tarantino further shared his point of view on how Marvel targets the young generation and is not exciting for the older generation especially after one turns 60.
Samuel L Jackson, who plays Nick Fury in the MCU, has worked with Tarantino numerous times and the two are said to be good friends, but Jackson certainly doesn't share his frequent collaborator's opinions when it comes to what comprises being a "movie star." Jackson and Tarantino worked on many films like 'Inglourious Basterds', 'The Hateful Eight', 'Kill Bill' franchise, and a few more. It is safe to say Nick Fury actor stood by his 'Avengers' and other Marvel actors regardless of sharing a long bond with 'Django Unchained' director. During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Jackson seemed to have gone prepared with a response to Tarantino. He said, "It takes an actor to be those particular characters, and the sign of movie stardom has always been, what, asses in seats? What are we talking about?” He further said, "That’s not a big controversy for me to know that apparently these actors are movie stars. Chadwick Boseman is 'Black Panther.' You can’t refute that, and he’s a movie star."
On the other hand, 'Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings' star Simu Liu shared his thought that the era of movie stardom "was white as hell" in response to Tarantino's comments.
He tweeted, "If the only gatekeepers to movie stardom came from Tarantino and Scorsese, I would never have had the opportunity to lead a $400 million plus movie. I am in awe of their filmmaking genius. They are transcendent auteurs. But they don't get to point their nose at me or anyone." He further wrote, "No movie studio is or ever will be perfect. But I'm proud to work with one that has made sustained efforts to improve diversity onscreen by creating heroes that empower and inspire people of all communities everywhere. I loved the "Golden Age" too.. but it was white as hell."

It looks like Avengers actually assembled to take a stand for their franchise. However, Jackson will return as Nick Fury in the Disney+ limited series 'Secret Invasion', set to stream in 2023. Speaking of returning, after the massive success of 'Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings' a sequel is in development, with Cretton set to return as writer and director.
