When will ‘Sister Wives: 1-on-1 Special’ air? Kody Brown claims ex-wife ‘played’ him in reunion trailer
The fallout from ‘Sister Wives’ Season 20 is far from over. And if the newly released ‘Sister Wives: 1-on-1’ trailer is any indication, old wounds between Kody Brown and his former wives are being ripped wide open. Kody Brown and Janelle formally ended their relationship with what they described as a “spiritual divorce” during the Season 20, as per PEOPLE. However, the reunion special suggests unresolved resentment and mistrust still dominate their bond. The tension is especially evident in a long-simmering dispute over the family’s former Arizona property, Coyote Pass.
In the first look at the upcoming ‘1-on-1’ episodes, Janelle, forcefully rejects claims that she and Kody secretly discussed selling the shared land without consulting the rest of the family. As quoted by Us Weekly, “There was no backdoor deal,” she insists, pushing back against accusations that she worked behind the scenes to undermine Meri and Robyn. Robyn, however, appears deeply shaken by the idea that decisions were being made without her knowledge. In the trailer, she recounts her understanding of the situation to host Sukanya Krishnan, alleging that, “[Kody] and Janelle are talking about a backdoor deal where they sell the property out from under Meri.”
Despite Janelle’s denial, Kody remains convinced she played a manipulative role during the process. The land, which was ultimately sold in April 2025, continues to be a flashpoint for unresolved bitterness. During his reunion sit-downs, Kody suggests his emotional attachment to Janelle may have left him vulnerable. He claims, “Janelle plays me all the time because I loved her and might still — I want her approval.” Kody also takes issue with what he views as Janelle’s criticism of his marriage to Robyn, questioning whether he is being portrayed as controlled or controlling.
Christine, who exited the marriage in 2021 and was not directly involved in the property dispute, offers her perspective in the trailer. She frames the ongoing conflict as “a perfect example of why our family broke apart.” The trailer also previews lingering tension between Meri and Robyn. During one exchange, Krishnan asks Robyn whether she understands why Meri might distrust her. Robyn immediately pushes back, referencing Meri’s past online relationship scandal rather than acknowledging Meri’s feelings. That moment reopens one of the most painful chapters in the show’s history: Meri’s 2015 catfishing incident.
Meri has previously claimed that Robyn worsened the situation by fueling rumors that the relationship was physical, an accusation Meri has repeatedly denied. Elsewhere, the reunion hints that Kody’s relationship with Christine’s husband, David Woolley, remains icy. The pair previously clashed when David offered unsolicited parenting advice during a meeting intended to address Kody’s past behavior. Kody later admitted he was not receptive to guidance from someone he viewed as being on the “opposite side” of the family’s history. The four-part special premieres on TLC on Sunday, January 11, at 10 p.m. ET.
