For Greg (Brady Noon), becoming a middle schooler is not something he is entirely looking forward to. But with his best friend Rowley by his side, he certainly feels better about, even though he believes he constantly has to look out for Rowley (Ethan William Childress). But Rowley seems to be okay with marching to the beat of his drum.

In the mood to check out a few more movies and series you can watch with your kids? You might want to consider are 'Harriet the Spy', 'Madagascar: A Little Wild'  and 'Ridley Jones: Season 2'.

To deal with their woes, Greg continues to go things that his parents have warned him not to, with a reluctant Rowley in tow. Despite being told to play Rumble Trike, a game where Rowley cycles down a hill and Greg throws a football at him, the two continue to play it, injuring Rowley in the process. Greg gets Rowley to lie to his parents about how he got injured, and when his mother finds out, he is made to apologize to Rowley. But Greg figures a white lie couldn't hurt.

Moreover, he anticipates that Rowley might now be seen as cool at school, as he has a broken wrist, which is ture enough, as all the kids want to sign it. Greg tries to cash in on the fame but fails, prompting him to seek his own success -- he applies to be the school paper's new cartoonist. Rowley is excited and wants to do this with him, but Greg insists that it his thing alone. The two fight over this, and Greg gets selected to be the cartoonist.

However, the teachers tampered with his comics, and kids continue to find him uncool. Meanwhile, Rowley gets the position instead and plagiarises Greg's previous drafts. Greg soon gets angry with Rowley, and the two no longer spend time together. Rowley finds a new friend, Chirag, while Greg tries to hang out with Fregley, and is instantly repulsed by him. When Rowley later asks Greg to return a game of his, Greg gets upset and declares that said game is now his, prompting them to get into a fight. But before anything happens, a few teenagers break in the school, the same ones that Greg and Rowley bested on Halloween.

Ready to make them pay for their car's busted tire, they make Rowley eat a part of The Cheese, a piece of cheese that has an urban legend status on the middle school playground. As teachers chase the teenagers away, the kids soon realize that part of The Cheese is missing and are ready to mock Rowley, but Greg takes the fall for him, as Rowley is his best friend. In the end, Greg gets what he wanted from the start, his own lunch table and no one bullying him and, more importantly, his best friend by his side.

'Diary of a Wimpy Kid' premieres exclusively on Disney+ December 3, 2021.
