'Hijack': 5 things to know about Apple TV+ thriller series starring Idris Elba

Apple TV+ signed a bunch of first-look deals around the time it launched, with Idris Elba's Green Door Pictures being one of the many celebrity-fronted production companies that it partnered with. The deal essentially meant that the 'Luther' star would develop and produce TV shows and films and Apple would be given the first preference to pick them up for its streaming service. 

Coming as a part of the above-mentioned deal is 'Hijack', a seven-part series starring Elba as a professional negotiator who decides to use his skills for the greater good. Want to know more? When and where can you watch 'Hijack'?

The thriller series will release exclusively on Apple TV+. The release date is yet to be announced but keep an eye on this space as it'll be updated soon. Apple TV+ subscriptions start at $4.99/month. 

What is 'Hijack' all about?

Apple TV+ thriller's official synopsis reads, "Told in real-time, 'Hijack' is a tense thriller that follows the journey of a hijacked plane as it makes its way to London over a seven-hour flight, as authorities on the ground scramble for answers. Elba will star as Sam Nelson, an accomplished negotiator in the business world who needs to step up and use all his guile to try and save the lives of the passengers — but his high-risk strategy could be his undoing."

Who stars in 'Hijack'?

Idris Elba will be seen as Sam Nelson in the series. The English actor is of Sierra Leonean and Ghanian descent. Apart from acting, Elba performs as a DJ and as an R&B musician. He is best known for his roles in shows and films such as 'The Wire', 'The Office', 'Luther', 'Thor', 'Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance', 'Prometheus', 'Pacific Rim', 'Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom', 'Fast & Furious: Hobbs & Shaw', 'The Suicide Squad', and 'Sonic the Hedgehog 2'.

Though the rest of the cast is yet to be revealed, it was recently announced that Archie Panjabi would be playing a pivotal role in 'Hijack'. She will be seen as Zahra Gafoor, a counter-terrorism officer who is on the ground when the plane gets hijacked and becomes a part of the investigation.

Showrunners

The thriller series is written by George Kay and will be directed by Jim Field Smith. Kay and Smith also serve as executive producers along with Idris Elba, Jamie Laurenson, Hakan Kousetta, and Kris Thykier. 'Hijack' is produced by 60Forty Films and Idiotlamp Productions in association with Elba's Green Door Pictures.
