'American Idol' Season 22 viewers slam Top 5 contestants for ditching Disney songs during theme night
SANTA MONICA, CALIFORNIA: 'American Idol' Season 22 returned for Disney Night featuring a series of outstanding performances. The aspiring singers were expected to perform two songs of their choice from Disney Songbook during the theme night.
Top 5 contestants Abi Carter, Tristan Harper, Emmy Russell, Jack Blocker, and Will Moseley performed songs including, 'Part of Your World,' 'The Climb,' 'Almost There' and more. However, viewers expressed disappointment with the song choices, noting that some contestants seemed to stray from the Disney theme by opting for different tunes.
Jack performed 'Space Oddity' by David Bowie from 'Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny', while Will sang 'Born to Be Wild' by Steppenwolf from 'D3: The Mighty Ducks'. However, the viewers didn't consider the two songs suitable for Disney night and called out the contestants.
On social media, one fan wrote, "DAVID BOWIE IS NOT DISNEY." Another person added, "Why even bother calling this a Disney episode?! LOL what a joke." One fan wrote, "So “Born to Be Wild” is a Disney song now? Time to give up on Disney Night." Another critic added, "Seriously…where are the DISNEY songs tonight??"
Another viewer wrote, "Sorry...but soundtracks like Guardians of the Galaxy should not count for Disney Night." One fan said, "Dear American Idol, please make Disney Night during the top 20 at Aulani next season so we can get people who aren't afraid of actual Disney songs. K thx."
