Did 'The Masked Singer' just feature its first married couple? The evidence certainly suggests it
With much fanfare and high anticipation, 'The Masked Singer' Season 14 made its debut on Wednesday, January 7. The premiere episode ended with the elimination of the Croissants and Googly Eyes. As the show continues its tradition of heavily concealing the real identities of its contestants using extravagant costumes, ardent fans are leaving no stone unturned in analyzing even the smallest details to uncover the celebrities behind the masks. In one such instance, viewers are convinced that a popular married couple is competing this season.
According to reports, clues and vocals strongly suggest that Galaxy Girl and Stingray are married, likely Ashlee Simpson and Evan Ross, making them the first married couple to compete against each other on 'The Masked Singer' Season 14, as per ScreenRant. In the Season 14 premiere, Galaxy Girl delivered a standout performance of Chappell Roan's 'Super Graphic Ultra Modern Girl'.
Her vocals and clue package strongly point to Simpson, with hints about early success, elite training, and being the youngest performer aligning with her childhood ballet scholarship and early rise before her family moved to Los Angeles. Additional visual hints, such as a glowing heart, a 'Welcome 2 LA' sign tied to her song 'La La,' and the Virgo and Libra constellations matching Simpson and Ross' zodiac signs, strengthen the case. Moreover, a calendar showing "Friday the 13th" points to Simpson as being Galaxy Girl; the movie's soundtrack featured Simpson's song, 'Just Let Me Cry'.
On the other hand, in the premiere episode, Stingray impressed with a performance of 'Stayin’ Alive', though the panelists' guesses appear to have missed the mark. His vocals and clue package instead strongly point to Ross, with references to elite events, Sunset Boulevard, Chateau Marmont, and growing up around music legends aligning with his upbringing as Diana Ross' son and his real-life connection to host Nick Cannon.
Visual clues also pointed to Ross, including an ant crawling on glass that may be a reference to his ex, Aubrey O'Day, who competed as Ant in season 13; a Paris Hilton image that could nod to his celebrity friendships or his close bond with Michael Jackson's daughter, Paris, adds to the theory. Reportedly, Simpson and Ross married in 2014 and share two children while also collaborating on music, fashion, and a reality series. If speculation proves true, 'The Masked Singer' Season 14 could be the first time a married couple competes against each other individually.
Notably, 'The Masked Singer' Season 14 premiere saw Googly Eyes becoming the first contestant to be unmasked after a high-energy performance of 'Turn Down For What'; he turned out to be Boston Red Sox legend David 'Big Papi' Ortiz, as per People. The identity of the Croissants will be revealed in the next episode. The other masked contestants who remain in the competition include 14 Karat Carrot, Snow Cone, Eggplant, Galaxy Girl, High Voltage, Owl, Stingray, Who Who, Croissants, Pugcasso, Cat Witch, Queen Corgi, Scarab, Calla Lily, Crane, Handyman, and Pangolin; new episodes of 'The Masked Singer' air Wednesdays at 8 pm ET.
