'American Idol' Season 22 viewers slam Roman Collins' song choice, label him 'least favorite'
SANTA MONICA: 'American Idol' Season 22 contestant Roman Collins recently sparked outrage on the internet over his latest song choice and singing style. During the Rock N' Roll Hall of Fame Week, Roman decided to perform, 'You're All I Need to Get By' by Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell.
Guest mentor Gene Simmon provided his guidance and warned about his song choice. Gene told Roman that the song doesn't start with the first note or end with the last. He then shared a story about living with Diana Ross when producers sent over the demo for 'Endless Love' and he urged her to do it.
However, Roman received backlash from the viewers as they suggested, "He’s meant to do gospel albums, not pop." Another person added, "I love Roman and I really liked the first part of the song. But the second part was not the same song. I hope he gets through." Another critic noted, "I swear this song is Soul & Motown, not Rock and Roll."
Another Instagram user penned, "This was the least favorite of his performances." Another internet user commented, "He's good. The song wasn't the best choice." Another X user tweeted, "Roman is still too church-y for me, sorry."
