MALIBU, CALIFORNIA: Rocker Gene Simmons' daughter Sophie Simmons, looked stunning at her private backyard wedding on February 22. The 30-year-old bride, whose mother is the actress Shannon Tweed-Simmons, wore a voluminous but sleeveless white dress with lace flower details on the neckline. She wed her longtime partner James Henderson on Wednesday in a private ceremony held in the yard of her mother's Malibu home in front of about 50 guests, as per reports.
Only seven months have passed since she got engaged, and the couple wed at a courthouse in downtown Los Angeles before the evening ceremony. At 4:30 pm, the celebrations began with cocktails and small plates. The ceremony began as soon as the sun started to set. A judge officiated the couple's wedding instead of having a religious ceremony. Nick Simmons, Sophie's 34-year-old older brother, and a few of her cousins and friends made up Sophie's bridal party. James was supported by his two brothers and two closest friends. In an effort to keep from crying on her wedding day, Sophie repeatedly practiced her vows in her car. The couple wrote their own vows. "I've been practicing in the car because I'm like, 'I am not going to cry,'" she said, as reported by Daily Mail.
'Couldn't be prouder of our daughter'
Earlier, the delighted parents, Gene Simmons and Shannon Tweed-Simmons, spoke about the wedding, saying, "We couldn't be prouder of our daughter." They further added, "James is a solid young man, and Sophie can do anything she puts her mind to. We wish them a lifetime of love and happiness. If they are even half as happy as we are, they will last long."
Regarding choosing Shannon's house as the location, Sophie said, "James and I never wanted a big wedding so this is the perfect space for us." The pair chose to have a judge officiate their wedding. "We wanted to be respectful to both of our families. We thought we would just sidestep religion altogether and make it a non-issue. We wanted to do the ceremony somewhere so beautiful that it wouldn't matter if it's not at a church or temple or whatever," as reported by MEAWW.
