'American Idol' Top 24: Mike Parker gives a 'pitchy performance', fans call it 'better than others'
Performing a cover song before the original artist can be intimidating and a daunting task, but that didn't deter 'American Idol' Season 20 star Mike Parker. After fighting really hard to earn a spot on the top 24 list, Mike was ready to take risks and show off his vocal prowess on the singing competition show.
So, for his top 24 performance before the live audience at Disney's Aulani resort in Hawaii, Mike picked his guest mentor Jimmie Allen's popular song 'Best Shot'. During rehearsals when Jimmie asked Mike what prompted him to pick that song, Mike explained how the country singer's journey in the music industry inspired him. Jimmie was touched by Mike's words and was eager to see Mike's take on his song. Mike put his spin on the popular country song and gave his best. While the show's judges- Katy Perry, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie, absolutely loved everything about Mike's performance, sadly the fans didn't share the same feelings.

Several fans felt that Mike's song choice was the best fit for him vocally, many also pointed out how his vocals were 'pitchy' at times. Despite the flaws in Mike's performance, the fans still felt that he was better than several other contestants on the show. A fan tweeted, "Mike Parker. Not great vocally but props for him for knowing who he is as an artist. Something about him that I like. #americanidol." "Eh, not bad but Jimmie Allen definitely has nothing to worry about from Mike Parker (as the expression goes). Allen's version vastly better and far more aesthetic voice #AmericanIdol," wrote a fan. "#AmericanIdol That wasn't Mike's best performance but he is still deserving of top 12. He is better than the others tonight," added a fan.
