LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: 'American Idol' Season 21 contestants took the stage during the Showstopper round to serenade the judges and earn a spot in the Top 24. However, it was difficult for the judges to eliminate multiple talented singers and advance the best to the next round of the ABC show.

Kaylin Hedges, a 15-year-old high school student, impressed the judges, Katy Perry, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie during her auditions and scored a special Platinum Ticket. Notably, Kaylin's audition has garnered over one million streams on YouTube since it aired on television. However, the aspiring singer didn't make it to the Top 24.

Platinum Ticket didn't help Kaylin Hedges to grab a spot in the Top 24

Kaylin Hedges delivered a heartfelt performance on 'Kiss from a Rose' by Seal. Though Kaylin won a Platinum Ticket during her auditions, the judges ultimately decided that the aspiring singer wasn't quite ready for the Top 24. Lionel said, "I think it boils down to experience and timing." He added, "Do you have a real shot at our business? Yeah. Is it gonna happen right now? No." Lionel further noted, "You didn’t make our top 24, but you wouldn’t have made it this far if you didn’t have promise." But elimination is not the end of Kaylin's journey as she later noted, "Even though I didn’t make top 24, I still think that my 'American Idol' journey has been amazing, and I wouldn’t take it back for anything."

'It's the Katy Perry curse'

Kaylin sang her heart out to earn a spot in the Top 24 but 'American Idol' 2023 judges think she didn't have enough experience. Meanwhile, the viewers were left stunned by the elimination of the Platinum Ticket winner, Kaylin. A social media user tweeted, "You gotta be kidding me, They just let kaylin hedges go, And she is very talented." Another viewer penned, "Platinum ticket does not make top 24?" Another person said, "Bull***t... she got a #PlatinumTicket, but isn't TOP 24? It's the "KatyPerryCurse"...like what befell ...attractive, young, white girls don't advance!"
