'What a big mistake?': 'American Idol' 2023 fans slam judges for saying 'No' to Cody Winkler after Luke Bryan joins him onstage
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Cody Winkler might have not received the golden ticket to Hollywood, but he did win the hearts of fans. Cody sang the country song, 'Unwound', originally sung by George Strait, during his audition on 'American Idol' season 21. His energetic voice made judges twirl around their chairs.
Moreover, Luke Bryan played guitar with the country singer and joined him onstage. It hasn't been too long since Cody started singing, which is why Katy Perry thinks he needs to practice a little more. However, viewers were left unimpressed as Luke and Katy gave him a "no" even though they enjoyed his performance.

Cody Winkler gets 'No'
Country singer Cody Winkler brought his raw talent to the 'American Idol' stage, which still needs to be embellished. Cody shared with the judges that "he's been trying to sing his whole life but found that he was too shy. He got more into it two years ago." He first sang 'Under A Neon Halo', however, he wasn't ready for it. Later, Luke helped Cody sing another song, 'Unwound'. Luke sang and played the guitar for him. Marking the performance, Katy said that he needs to practice a bit more. She dubbed his talent "authentic." Cody gets two "No" but Lionel gave him a "yes." Though Cody will not be going to Hollywood this time, he might next year!
'I was so hoping Luke would say yes!'
Fans were left unimpressed, as Luke and Katy said no to Cody. Fans slammed the judges in the comment section of his audition video uploaded on the official Instagram account of 'American Idol'. One user wrote, "They should have gave him a chance." The second user penned, "I was so hoping Luke would say “yes”!" Third added, "He should have gotten a second chance!" Fourth said, "Cody, he is genuine & authentic... Lionel is so right, reminded me he sang like Willie." Meanwhile, one furious user wrote, "Cody, you should've been through to the next round, Luke sang along with you but he gave a no, But I didn't hear or see that part... How can he gave you a no over a great singing voice and singing along you? What a big mistake that Luke said @cody_winkler97 and for Luke Bryan, What a big mistake that you gave Luke a no even after you sang along with him, you should've give him a yes." However, 'American Idol' host, Ryan Seacrest, took to his Twitter and shared that he believes that Cody is still a winner, even though he didn't get a ticket to Hollywood.
I think Cody Winkler is still walking away a winner after being compared to the great Willie Nelson and performing with @LukeBryan #americanidol
