When 'American Idol' host Ryan Seacrest announced that Noah Thompson made it to the Top 5 round, fans were left feeling puzzled as to how he managed to advance so far in the competition despite having average vocals.

This led to fans conjuring various theories to explain how the 19-year-old continued to remain in the competition while other talented vocalists like Christian Guardino and Jay Copeland were shown the door. Several fans on Twitter believe that Noah's good looks might be the reason behind his success on the show. Ahead of his Top 7 round performance, Noah was diagnosed with Covid-19, which forced him to continue competing on the show from the safety of his hotel room.

For his first performance, Noah picked 'Painted Blue' track, while for the second round he dedicated 'Landslide' to his mother. Though Noah's performance wasn't bad, fans felt that the young performer should have long gone home, as he is no match for the remaining singers in the competition. A fan tweeted, "Noah does not belong in the five with talent like Christian and Jay out of the competition. His looks are what got him voted in, not his talent. #AmericanIdol." "Predictable results!!!No need to watch any longer. Noah's gonna win and not because he's the best singer, but because the particular audience that watches and vote think he's cute! IMHO #AmericanIdol," wrote a fan. "Noah’s a good looking kid, but compare to the other singers left in the competition, he needs to go. #americanidol," added a fan. "I really hope he doesn't win. Were gonna have another chayce Beckham situation where the runner ups are the actually unique and talented ones and the winner is just pushed by the middle aged fan group that only likes country music and chiseled dudes," commented a fan on the show's YouTube clip of his performance.
