'American Idol': Fans remind show is for talent not popularity as Christian Guradino gets evicted
'American Idol' Season 20 fans are far from pleased with the Top 5 round results on the ABC singing competition show. When the show's host Ryan Seacrest announced that fan-favorite contestant/ frontrunner- Christian Guardino had been voted out by the audience, fans had some pretty strong reactions to it.
For the top 7 round, the contestants were tasked with delivering two performances. For the first round, they would have to perform to a popular TikTok song, and for the second round, they would have to dedicate a song to their mother or a mother figure in their life. Christian played by his strength of delivering impeccable ballads and chose Justin Bieber's 'Lonely' for the first round. Christian added his own twist to the song, which moved not only the judges but also fans. For the second round Christian dedicated 'Dear God' to his mother.

Though the judges and fans loved every bit of both the performances, unfortunately, the audience apparently didn't feel the same way. The audience voted out Christian and Jay Copeland from advancing to the Top 5 round. Several fans took to Twitter to slam the audience's poor decision to eliminate Christian from the singing competition. A fan tweeted, "Not watching next week. Christian had the best vocals by far!!!! Very very upset!!!!!!#AmericanIdol." "#AmericanIdol Christian was the best singer I’m out no more idol for me thus show is a joke!!!!!!!!!," wrote a fan. Another fan added, "America voted out Christian? Logic has been going out the window the last few years people! #AmericanIdol." "HOW DID CHRISTIAN GET VOTED OFF AMERICAN IDOL?!?! You fools!!!!!!!!!! #AmericanIdol #idol," commented a fan.

Many fans also blamed the show's audience's obsession with the performer's looks and popularity over their talent as the reason behind Christian's elimination from the show. A fan shared, "I can't believe Jay and Christian were sent home. It should be for talent not popularity #AmericanIdol." "Christian was robbed for two mediocre blondes. #americanidol," declared a fan. "#AmericanIdol seems to have a love for skinny, blonde, white girl country singers. they’re so obsessed with trying to make another carrie underwood that they’ve forgotten what real talent sounds like. christian should have moved on. end of story," echoed a fan. "Noah does not belong in the five with talent like Christian and Jay out of the competition. His looks are what got him voted in, not his talent. #AmericanIdol," pointed out a fan.
