'Accidental Country Diary': Rom-com casts Joy, Red Velvet fans say 'actress Park Sooyoung is back'
Following Joy’s last two melodramas full of tears and angst, we are finally getting the Red Velvet star in a light-hearted rom-com. Also known as Park Sooyoung, the idol actor has been cast in the K-drama ‘Accidental Country Diary’. It looks like she is finally on a roll, having come back from her acting hiatus with ‘The One and Only’ in December 2021. It ended with much pomp this February as fans and non-fans praised Joy’s acting. Well, in just 3 months, it has been announced that she has landed her next drama.
Joy is now set to play the female lead Ahn Ja-young, a police officer in the KakaoTV web drama ‘Accidental Country Diary’. Her character is said to be an insider and a native of the rural town of Gangchun who knows everyone and is a social butterfly. The Red Velvet star has been cast opposite Choo Young-woo known for the hit BL (boy love) drama ‘You Make Me Dance,’ which was also his acting debut. He was also previously cast in ‘Police University’ and played one of the main roles in the ensemble drama ‘School 2021’.

Joy and Choo Young-woo to lead ‘Accidental Country Diary’
Choo Young-woo plays Han Ji-yool, a vet who lives in Seoul and is forced to move to his grandfather’s village after a serious incident. It turns out he is tricked into taking care of his grandfather’s animal clinic while he is actually touring in Europe for half a year. Annoyed but compelled to stay there for so long, Ji-yool comes across the cheery and joyful officer Ahn Ja-young who is ready to help him in any minor inconvenience. ‘Accidental Country Diary’ follows their relationship as Ji-yool goes from lamenting his state to falling in love with Joy’s Ja-young.
The drama was rumored to be canceled after Girls’ Generation’s Sooyoung and actor Jang Geun-suk rejected the casting offer in September 2021. Adapted from a web novel of the same name, fans were disappointed as they hoped it would get picked up again. Well, their wishes have been heard as the drama now led by Red Velvet's Joy and Choo Young-woo will be airing in the second half of 2022. Each episode will be 30 minutes long and there will be a total of 12 episodes. The show is said to be a healing romance between Ji-yool and Ja-young.
