Joy plays a terminally-ill influencer in 'Only One Person' who makes a pact to take down one bad person before her life ends

2021 is a good year for Red Velvet fans. We first had the girl group coming back after two years with their successful album ‘Queendom’. On top of that, the members went solo including Joy who released her first solo album ‘Hello’. And now, we are getting actor Joy back too. Also known as Park Sooyoung, Joy made her acting debut with a special appearance in Song Joong-ki’s K-drama ‘Descendants of the Sun’. She got her first major role in 2017 with ‘The Liar and His Lover’ and now she’s landed the upcoming K-drama ‘Only One Person’.

The last two years were a drought for fans as Red Velvet was on a hiatus of sorts. We got the sub-unit single ‘Monster’ and the members’ radio shows, but that was it. Even Joy’s acting career was on pause as her last K-drama was in 2018. She had starred as the main lead in ‘Tempted’ alongside Woo Do-hwan of ‘Eternal Monarch’ fame, Moon Ga-young from ‘True Beauty’ and ‘Dali and the Cocky Prince’ main lead, Kim Min-jae. Well, after three years, fans are finally getting to see Joy once more on their TV with ‘Only One Person'.

Joy plays Mi-do in 'Only One Person'

A few months ago, it was reported that Red Velvet’s Joy had been offered the role of Seong Mi-do in ‘Only One Person’. And last week, fans saw her at the script reading of the K-drama alongside her co-stars Ahn Eun-jin and Kim Kyung-nam. Well, on November 26, jTBC released still cuts of Joy as Seong Mi-do that has fans excited for the K-drama. It is a romantic melodrama where three terminally-ill women at a hospice accidentally get involved in a murder case and decide to take down one bad person in their life while trying to find one person who is precious to them.

Joy plays Mi-do who is a popular social media influencer. She has to make a decision that could affect her influencer persona or the pact that she has made with the other two female leads that she met at the hospice. Reveluvs (Red Velvet’s fandom) pointed out that Joy took a break from her acting as she wanted to study acting and challenge herself with a unique role. In the still cuts that jTBC released, Joy channels her it-girl charm for Mi-do as she sports chic outfits and is seen preparing an event. The K-drama will air on December 20 at 11 pm KST (9 am ET) on jTBC’s channel.

Excited fans trended Joy’s real name ‘Actress Park Sooyoung’ as they made tweets like, “Joy mentioned before how she wanted to challenge herself with a different kind of role and she has been studying acting over the last 3 years. Joy has shown so much dedication in her portrayal of Mido. Let's show Actress Park Sooyoung and "Only One Person" all of our support.” One Reveluv commented, “Can't wait for actress park sooyoung.” Another tweeted, “Come on actress Park Sooyoung!! im so excited for this drama!” One shared, “We really are getting actress park sooyoung's contents after 3 years.”
