Contains no spoilers
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Love is already in the air and as Valentine's Day is approaching real soon Netflix has dropped its love bomb, 'Your Place or Mine'. The royalties of romantic comedy, Reese Witherspoon and Ashton Kutcher unite to grace us with a cute love story this valentine's season. Although Kutcher was scared of "dating rumors" on the red carpet, however in reel life Kutcher's characters have been always the next-door lover boy be it 'No Strings Attached' or 'Valentine's Day'. However, as we know your best friends are the ride or die in your life, in this movie we see how they can also be your soulmate.
The film stars Reese Witherspoon (who also produced) and Kutcher as the main characters, apart from them we'll see 'Grey's Anatomy's Jesse Williams as Theo, Wesley Kimmel as Jack, Rachel Bloom as Scarlet, Zoe Chao as Minka, and Steve Zahn as Zen. The official synopsis of the film reads, "Debbie (Reese Witherspoon) and Peter (Ashton Kutcher) are best friends and total opposites. From 'A lot like Love' to 'Your Place or Mine,' Ashton Kutcher's binge-worthy romantic movies
In the genre of romantic comedy, both actors have served the audience plenty to binge-watch. Kutcher's credits in the genre include 'Just Married' (2003) and 'Valentine's Day' (2010), but he hasn't done one since 'No Strings Attached' (2011). Both have dusted off the rust as they make a charming rom-com return, teaming up to star in 'Your Place or Mine.'
An adorable tale of two best friends
To begin with, Ashton Kutcher's Peter and Reese Witherspoon's Debbie are like every other best friend, who crib and fight but also love unconditionally and are selfless with their decisions. Although the two reside in different cities as we know from the trailer, in the movie we see how their bond is still intact regardless of the distance. Debbie and Peter are complete opposites however, opposites do attract. Kutcher's character has been displayed as organized, a little emotionally detached, and an awkward individual, on the other hand, Witherspoon's character is a little messy, a complete control freak, and a person who is too scared to take chances. However, we see none of these differences mattered enough to faze their relationship. Witherspoon's Debbie's wish was fulfilled after Kutcher's Peter made a selfless offer to take care of Debbie's kid, Jack. It is the moment that would completely change their lives. The storyline legit binds the audience to not leave their seats. Safe to say, the rom-com royalties have once again successfully left the audience in complete awe.
Aline Brosh McKenna's masterpiece
The romantic comedy film is written and directed by Aline Brosh McKenna in her directorial debut. Although this is McKenna's directorial debut she has done a splendid job of representing the trajectory of a 20-year friendship into lovers. The film has many little moments which will stay with you starting from how one can always feel the grass is greener on the other side and it is necessarily not the case to a child's choice also needs to be prioritized in order for them to grow in life and figure out their likes and dislikes.
Overall, this is a perfect pick to Netflix and chill this Valentine's week as the cute best friends turn lovers movie will make your heart warm and fuzzy.
'Your Place or Mine' is streaming on Netflix beginning February 10, 2023.
