Who is Yara Sofia? 'RPDR' alum was crowned Miss Congeniality in Season 3
Over the years, the 'RuPaul's Drag Race' franchise has truly grown leaps and bounds and is now a global phenomenon. Seeing that the show has its own UK, Thailand, Canadian and Australian versions, drag queens from all over the world now have a chance to show off their charisma, uniqueness, nerve and talent to a global audience.
Back on Season 3 of the show, it was none other than Yara Sofia, who came in repping Puerto Rican pride to the fullest. The quirky wowed the judges during her initial run on the show and later on 'All Stars' Season 1. And now, she's back on the main stage, ready to make heads turn! Who is Yara Sofia?
Gabriel Burgos Ortíz is a drag queen from Puerto Rico, but the queen goes by the name 'Yara Sofia'. The queen began her career at a San Juan gay nightclub, called Krash and won her first gay pageant title 'Miss Road to Diva' in 2005. Ortiz has a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in theatre from the Universidad del Sagrado Corazón in San Juan. Her stage name, 'Yara' is that of her high school friend who is also a dancer.
Her friend helped her pick out her last name. During her run on 'Drag Race' in Season 3, Sofia quickly became a fan-favorite, thanks to her makeup looks, elaborate wigs and lenses. Although she was eliminated in the thirteenth episode, she went on to win the title of Miss Congeniality during her season. She later joined the cast once again, when she came back for Season 1 of 'RuPaul's Drag Race: All Stars'.
She was partnered with Alexis Mateo during the season. The duo called out other participants, mainly Manila Luzon and Latrice Royale when the two suggested that the team should go home because no one understood their accents. During her first 'All Star' run, the duo came in third among the teams, with Sofia placing 5th/6th overall with Mateo.
The queen's net worth
As reported by Article Bio, the queen has a net worth of $1 million. Apart from being a TV personality, she is a full-time drag performer and a makeup artist as well.
She has appeared in several music videos, such as 'Queen' for girl group Xelle and 'Werqin' Gurl' by season two, three and 'All Stars' three alum, Shangela. She also made an appearance on 'Skin Wars'.
'RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars' Season 6 premieres on Paramount+ on June 24, 2021. The winner receives $100,000 and will be inducted into the Drag Race Hall of Fame, alongside Chad Michaels, Alaska, Trixie Mattel, Monét X Change, Trinity the Tuck and Shea Coulée. 'All Stars' 6 debuts on the streaming service with two back-to-back episodes, followed by weekly drops every Thursday. Untucked will also be available to stream on Paramount+ immediately after each new episode. The crop of fan-favorites returning include Eureka O’Hara, Ginger Minj, Trinity K Bonet and Yara Sofia.
