‘Wouldn’t Be Me’: Jamie's collab comeback has idol’s ‘authentic’ take on societal misogyny
Jamie aka Jimin Park is finally back with new music. The soloist first entered the K-pop scene after winning ‘K-pop Star’, signing with JYPE and joining the groups 15& and M.O.L.A. She then became popular for her bubbly and outgoing personality as she befriended the English-speaking K-pop clique, became a host of the show ‘After School Club’ and became a regular at DIVE Studio’s podcasts. Now she has released her latest single ‘Wouldn’t Be Me’.
Jamie left her label JYPE in 2019 and signed with the agency Warner Music Korea in April 2020. Her first comeback with her new label was ‘Numbers’ featuring Changmo which charted on Gaon Chart. She was also the on-air talent on shows like ‘Good Girl’ and ‘Begin Again: Open Mic’. She is now a regular on the 2022 show ‘Style Me’ with VIVIZ’s SinB, Victon’s Subin, Jo Soo-min and Kim So-eun. Jamie was also unfortunately in the news after ex-DAY6 star Jae Park hurled a misogynist slur at her.

Jamie collabs with DJs 22Bullets and Fedde Le Grand
However, having patched up with Jae, who is also her long-time friend, Jamie has finally returned to music. Her last single was ‘No Numbers’ featuring JMIN in September 2021. 2021 was a good year for her as she also collaborated with the likes of Cheetah, PH-1, Saweetie and Doja Cat. This time round, for her first song release of 2022 ‘Wouldn’t Be Me’, she has teamed up with DJs and producers 22Bullets and Dutch DJ Fedde Le Grand.
The song is the first she has dropped in a while. Jamie decided to take an honest route and show her authentic side as she sings about her frustrations in trying to thrive within a controlling industry and society in general. While she has resolved the controversy with Jae who called her a ‘th*t’, fans cannot help think about it since both K-pop fans and her friends have been making derogatory remarks about her "new image". With ‘Wouldn’t Be Me’, Jamie hopes to “break free of these societal attempts to subdue her” and make her own path. This inspirational anthem shows us the ‘real’ and powerful Jamie who hopes to encourage her fans to break free too.
Fedde Le Grand also shared, “Because of the pandemic we learned to be creative with online meetings. So we developed an online session with all the artists and writers from Thailand, Korea, Sweden and The Netherlands and created 'Wouldn’t Be Me'. This is my first song working like this and I loved it and think we created something special.” 22Bullets further elaborated how the track was made, “Me and Fedde are all about that funk analog sound and after a studio jamming together, that's how the track was born.”
