We all have a special place for classic movies. In today’s trend of reboots and remakes, another interesting news is that 20th Century is all geared up to revive one of its most loved and cult IPs with the ‘Working Girl’ reboot.

According to a source’s quote in Deadline, it is true that currently, the studio is on the way to developing a reboot of this 1980’s classic film ‘Working Girl’ with pop sensation and actress Selena Gomez in the leading role who would also be producing it. Ilana Pena will be creating a screenplay for the reboot version. This film would be premiering globally on Hulu.

Talking about the highly discussed reboot, the exact details of what the new reboot version’s plot could be all about is not yet known as makers have tightly kept the premise and possible plot under wraps. But the original cult film ‘Working Girl’ starred Melanie Griffith, Harrison Ford, Sigourney Weaver, and Joan Cusack in leading roles. The film’s plot revolved around an ambitious secretary (Griffith) who takes on her boss’ identity while the latter is laid up with a broken leg. The film was not only one of that specific year’s breakout hits garnering more than $100 million at the domestic box office but it also was hailed by both global audiences and critics. The film earned six Oscar nominations including a Best Picture nom, Best Actress nomination for Griffith, and Supporting nominations for Cusack and Weaver.

Thanks to the gigantic and unprecedented successful run of 'Top Gun: Maverick' at the global box office, like other studios who have started following this voguing trend, even 20th Century has hopped into the same bandwagon with its ‘Working Girl’ reboot and thinks that Selena Gomez is the perfect partner for them in this project.

This news of Selena Gomez coming on board with 20th Century to develop the reboot of the 1989 cult film ‘Working Girl’ was posted officially by Deadline on their Twitter handle.

As soon as this announcement was done, fans turned Twitter into a tweet fest and started giving in their honest reactions to the same. Many of them lashed out at the fact that why is such a classic film being ruined and spoiled. Many of them weren’t impressed that there is Selena Gomez as a partner on this film reboot with 20th Century who also added how they wish that instead of Selena some other actress could have been cast as well. It didn’t settle down well with the fans that yet another timeless film is being butchered.

“Can we please just leave the classic/beloved films alone already? Get some new ideas Hollywood,” shared a fan. “Okay just one question: why,” added a fan. “Oh c’mon leave working girl alone,” noted a fan. “No. no way nope noooooope,” a fan said. “Seriously?,” mentioned a fan. “Sweetie I do love you in Only Murders BUT DONT STAR IN THIS, you can’t compete with Melanie and Sigourney,” a fan shared.
