K-pop fans worried as 'hated' idol Wonyoung of IVE cries during a fancall

You know you’ve made it big when you get hate for no reason. This is also relevant to K-pop as there are idols like Blackpink’s Jennie, BTS’ Jimin, EXO’s Kai, Mamamoo’s Hwasa, and several others who get cyberbullied. However, fans cannot understand why IVE’s Wonyoung has now become one of them. While she is no rookie, she shot to fame and currently has the spotlight on her for being part of the new girl group IVE.

Wonyoung won the Mnet survival show ‘Produce 48’ and had been part of the popular girl group IZ*ONE before they disbanded. Fans believe that since the group had 12 members, she wasn’t that much of a target for haters. However, she started turning heads for her doll-like visuals and slim proportions as she joined the seven-member group IVE in 2021. She was compared to Blackpink’s Jennie for looking "haughty" and performing "lazily". And it looks like Wonyoung knows about the hate that she gets online as she tried to look more active ever since her controversial performance.

Wonyoung tears up during fancall

On April 12, Wonyoung was getting tremendous hate for eating a strawberry with two hands. Fans and even non-fans are now worried as Wonyoung teared up while talking to a fan as they feel that the hate is getting to her. During her stint with IZ*ONE and even with IVE, Wonyoung has never succumbed to pressure and had said that she isn’t a crier and she didn’t care about any rumors. But on April 18, a clip started circulating where Wonyoung is crying while talking to a fan. 

The fan, user @KISHYly0831, shared her message that led to Wonyoung tearing up, “Nowadays, I'm getting a lot of stress because of personal circumstances but thanks to Wonyoung, I feel better. I told her just like unnie said, I don't really enjoy my life nowadays but I was looking forward to being able to meet with Wonyoung, and I'm happy in this moment, so Wonyoung-ah, thank you so much. I'm so happy to be able to be Wonyoung's fan.” Since such messages are common for fans to tell their idols, Wonyoung’s emotional reaction has led to many worrying about her well-being and the amount of hate she is receiving for her to tear up at such kind words.

‘Usually she just thanks them and smiles’

A Knetizen wrote, “Even if I'm not a fan of Wonyoung, this makes me so sad. Recently, she said that she didn't care about the gossips but just how hard has she had it and how much did she cry before she was able to laugh and look over the things that hurt her.” Another added, “I just don't understand what a kid like her has done that enraged others and made others swear at her so much?...only the people who are not doing well are boiling with inferiority complex…Jang Wonyoung is so charming that I started to find her likable and as I was fighting back the forced hate against her, I became a fan. I don't know if Wonyoung will see this but I hope that she knows that there are way more people who love her in real life.”

One explained why fans were assuming that the hate was the reason for tears, “I don't think it's wrong to assume it might have something to do with it. Wonyoung is usually not an emotional person, and she has always recieved fan messages like these through fancalls. Usually she just thanks them and smiles. I don't think it's wrong to assume she is having a hard time lately, so a simple fan message like this easily affected her.”

One fan tweeted, “She rarely cries so whatever op said must’ve really had an impact on her. wonyoung has been constantly hated on but she has always been strong. even her members know that she always puts up a good front no matter how hard it is. we’re always proud & we’re here for you always.”

Another added, “Im glad knetz have her back. jealous ppl r really trying to cancel wonyoung for the most stupid reasons 😭 she was SO hated for struggling to open a bag of chips and for bleeding on stage. and now, for eating a strawberry? 💀 yall sick af, go get help.”

Even then, there were hateful and sarcastic words that warrant fans’ worry. One user tweeted, “She's so dramatic.” Another user added, “Pickmeyoung is so fugly and fake she deserves all the hate in the world.” One shared, “Truly an it girl... her crying in a fansign is making headlines.”
