As ‘IT: Welcome to Derry’ inches towards its season 1 finale, many fans are left wondering if the supernatural horror series will get a second season. While HBO hasn't officially announced 'IT: Welcome to Derry' Season 2, creators Andy Muschietti and Barbara Muschietti have shed light on a three-season plan they have for the hit series. According to a report by Poprant, the makers have stated that each season of the show will explore different eras of Derry's history. The showrunners mentioned that season 2 of the hit horror show will jump to 1935, continuing the 27-year cycle of IT’s awakening.

In a recent interview with Deadline, Andy talked about the future of 'IT: Welcome to Derry' and shared, "There is an intentional bigger arc that will open. My intention with this was to create a story that is a little bit like an iceberg under the water, all through seasons 1, 2, and 3. There will be an expansion in the mythology and more answers to the big questions. The second season will be in 1935. At the end of season 1, we are hinting at the reason why we are going to tell the story in two more seasons and backwards."

In a separate interview with Entertainment Weekly, Andy candidly spoke about the possibility of the second and third seasons of 'IT: Welcome to Derry'. Andy said, "We're still keeping that perspective, but there's a handover to a second season and a third season that will explore more of the other side because it's really connected to the origin of It and the reasons why 'It' is on this plane of existence. The idea, on the longer arc of the series, is to open the door to that bigger, wider mythology to see the iceberg under the water and everything that is not perceivable by humans. I can't tell you too much about seasons 2 and 3, but we are gonna see more of the mythology and the world that is behind the veil."

For the unversed, 'IT: Welcome to Derry' is based on Stephen King’s 1986 novel, 'It'. The show serves as a prequel to the films 'It' and 'It: Chapter Two', which came out in 2017 and 2019, respectively. The series has a star-studded cast, which includes Taylour Paige, Jovan Adepo, James Remar, Stephen Rider, Matilda Lawler, Amanda Christine, Clara Stack, Blake Cameron James, Arian S. Cartaya, Miles Ekhardt, Mikkal Karim-Fidler, Jack Molloy Legault, Matilda Legault, Chris Chalk, Peter Outerbridge, Madeleine Stowe, and Bill Skarsgård. The seventh episode of 'IT: Welcome to Derry', titled 'The Black Spot', dropped on HBO on December 7, 2025. In case you're wondering, the first season of 'IT: Welcome to Derry' will conclude with episode 8, which will air on December 14, 2025.
