Here's why ‘The Masked Singer’ Season 14 isn't on tonight — and when it will be back
'The Masked Singer' Season 14 has been every bit the entertainment it promised to be ahead of its release. From glitzy, creative costumes to pumping, groovy performances, the hit reality TV show's latest instalment has been a smashing success. With competition heating up, the wait for the next episode was one topic making the noise on social media as judges Ken Jeong, Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg, Rita Ora, and Robin Thicke decide who stays and who exits after being unmasked.
Episode 7, titled 'Twilight Night', saw some scintillating performances. Christina Perri set the tone with 'A Thousand Years,' followed by Bruno Mars' 'It Will Rain' by Cat Witch. More iconic songs were in the offing with The Owl performing Billy Idol's 'White Wedding'. Stingray's version of 'Bad Habits' by Ed Sheeran added more soul to the episode. However, the latest update comes as a dampener for fans of the show after a stellar seventh episode.
After six episodes this season, 'The Masked Singer' takes a break on Wednesday, with the reasons not yet revealed by the network. Speculations are rife that the Winter Olympics taking place in Milan might be the reason, with most primetime TV shows hitting pause with regular broadcast. The show will return with its eighth episode, 'Spice Girls Night' on February 25 during its usual 8 p.m. ET slot. Some major names were unmasked over the last few weeks after their riveting performances. The Owl was revealed to be Billy Ray Cyrus. 'RHOBH' alum Teddi Mellencamp was revealed under Calla Lily's mask. Claudia Oshry was Queen Corgi, Taraji P. Henson was the Scarab, Tone Lōc was The Handyman, Tiffany Haddish was Le Who Who, Julie and Todd Chrisley as The Croissants, and David Ortiz as Googly Eyes.
In related news, Henson weighed in on why she decided to enter the show. "I heard about them guessing me every year, and I was like, well, let me just give the people what they've been asking for," she said. The Oscar nominee also shed light on her costume.
"It was not comfortable singing under the mask. And I was getting nervous because I'm not really a singer. I can sing, but I don't put myself in the singing category. It's something that I do when I have to do it. So I was very nervous, because if I drop the lines, if I choke, I need to be able to see the teleprompter; it was a little stressful. The socks that they have your head in, so if the mask moves, no one can see your skin's color, and it's tight. I thought it was gonna be restrictive for me singing, but it wasn't, but it's not easy."
The masked singers yet to be revealed and eliminated are Cat Witch (Kylie Cantrall), Pugcasso, 14 Karat Carrot, Snowcone, Eggplant, Galaxy Girl, High Voltage, Stingray, Pangolin, and Crane. These contestants will eventually be unmasked and eliminated, leaving three or four to make the final. The two-hour special is slated for April 1. 'The Masked Singer' Season 14 airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Fox.
