Who went home on ‘The Masked Singer 14’? Judges stunned to find Miley Cyrus family member behind Owl mask
‘The Masked Singer’, Fox’s wildest guessing game, returned on Feb. 11 with a theme that leaned all the way into moonlight, moody stares, and vampire romance. Season 14 rolled out its ‘Twilight Night’ episode, complete with dramatic set pieces inspired by the blockbuster film series. The night kicked off with a familiar voice. Christina Perri stepped onto the stage to perform ‘A Thousand Years’, the ballad forever linked to the ‘Twilight’ saga. And for a few minutes the guessing stopped and the nostalgia took over. Then the competition snapped back into place.
By the end of the episode, one more masked celebrity had to step forward and reveal their identity. And this time, it was Owl who flew a little too close to the sun. When the votes were counted, the bottom two contestants were Owl and Stingray. That meant a sing-off, because nothing says high stakes like a head-to-head performance in oversized costumes. The pair each delivered their own take on Pat Benatar’s ‘Love Is a Battlefield’. Stingray managed to secure enough support to stay in the game. Owl did not. When the mask finally came off, the familiar mullet-era legend underneath was revealed to be none other than Billy Ray Cyrus. Yes, that Billy Ray Cyrus.
The man behind the 1992 smash ‘Achy Breaky Heart’. The same artist who decades later found himself topping the charts again alongside Lil Nas X with ‘Old Town Road’. A career with peaks, dips, reinventions, and more headlines than he probably ever expected. And now, apparently, a stint inside a giant owl costume. The panelists, for the record, did not see it coming. Jenny McCarthy-Wahlberg confidently tossed out Ted Danson’s name. Ken Jeong followed her down that same road, also guessing the ‘Cheers’ star. Rita Ora went in a different direction and suggested Kurt Russell.
Robin Thicke rounded things out with Dennis Quaid. Not one of them landed on the country singer standing right in front of them. Earlier in the season, Cyrus had dropped clues that hinted at his rise to fame and the scrutiny that followed. In one segment, he spoke about a time when his name was everywhere. He also admitted that the attention came with criticism. At one point, he revealed that, “My biggest fear became people laughing at me, and not with me.” Instead of letting the noise swallow him, he shifted his focus. Family became his anchor.
And eventually, he found himself part of another massive hit. Another clue package offered a playful nod to his early dreams. Before music fully took over, Cyrus had aspirations in baseball. He described himself as a “scrappy, right-handed slugger” back in the day. He loved America’s pastime but realized it wasn’t the right lane for him. So he stepped away from the diamond. He followed a different calling. That choice, as it turns out, changed everything.
