With Will Byers (Noah Schnapp) replicating Vecna's (Jamie Campbell Bower) powers, 'Stranger Things' Season 5 Volume 1 truly lived up to its hype. While fans are intrigued by the major twist in the finale, 'Stranger Things' Season 5 Episode 2's opening scene is also grabbing attention for bringing a Demogorgon to the Wheeler house. And now, creators Matt and Ross Duffer have finally revealed what led to one of the most nightmarish openings of this season.

In 'Stranger Things' Season 5 Volume 1, the Duffer Brothers fulfill their promise of the craziest cold open by sending a Demogorgon crashing into Mike Wheeler's (Finn Wolfhard) house. The first episode ends with the creature ripping through Holly's bedroom ceiling in an attempted abduction that mirrors Will's Season 1 kidnapping, as per Deadline. Episode 2 reveals that Karen Wheeler (Cara Buono) defends her family by smashing a wine bottle and striking the Demogorgon with the jagged glass before it slashes her chest and drags Holly into the Upside Down.

Matt said they'd long wanted to bring horror directly into the Wheeler home, explaining, "It was fun to unleash the horror in the Wheeler house. We had always wanted to do a Wheeler house attack. I think we talked about it all the way back in Season 1, so it's something that we've been dying to do, and it was a blast to shoot." He added that they also wanted to spotlight Cara Buono's character, saying, "We've always wanted to give Cara a real hero moment, because she has, even as a person, a real ferocity and strength. We wanted to show, really, where Nancy's courage and strength come from."

Ross noted this scene highlights that Nancy's toughness comes from her mother, "not Ted." Meanwhile, Ted Wheeler is outside hitting golf balls until he notices the lights flickering and enters the house with his golf club. Matt said Ted gets "one good swing in," explaining, "We said in the script that it's the best swing of his life… He gets [the Demogorgon] right in the head. He does probably as much damage as one could possibly do with a golf club."

Notably, the final season of 'Stranger Things' will feature eight episodes released in three parts. Volume 1 (Episodes 1–4) dropped on Wednesday, November 26, giving fans their first glimpse of the concluding story. Volume 2 (Episodes 5–7) arrives on Thursday, December 25, setting up the endgame, as per Poprant. The series finale, Episode 8, releases on Wednesday, December 31, and is expected to deliver the long-awaited conclusion to Hawkins' mysteries and character arcs.
