'Get rid of platinum tickets': Angry viewers slam 'American Idol' judges as Cam Amen gets eliminated

The judges of 'American Idol' shockingly decide to eliminate two contestants who were given platinum tickets during the auditions

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: A platinum ticket to the 'American Idol' auditions does not guarantee a spot in the Top 24 round. Two of this year's platinum ticket recipients were abruptly booted by the judges following the showstoppers phase, barely short of making it to the live performances. Cam Amen was eliminated from the show during the April 10 episode. Many viewers rushed to social media to vent their feelings, with the majority requesting that judges no longer award platinum tickets.

Platinum tickets allow a candidate to bypass the first round of Hollywood Week and pick their duet partners ahead of the rest of the contestants. During the auditions, the judges gave out three platinum tickets, and America chose a fourth.

Cam is expecting his first child after raising his younger brothers. Following his audition, he was given a platinum ticket. Cam discussed his lack of confidence throughout his sit-down with the judges. He froze on stage in the Hollywood round but continued nonetheless.

Cam's final Showstopper round performance was 'The Impossible Dream' by Man of La Mancha. The judges notice that he continued going into his head while singing. Cam was confident in his ability to advance. Lionel Richie, on the other hand, delivered the dreadful news. Cam needed to make friends with his voice, according to Lionel, and he earned the platinum card because they didn't believe he was good but amazing. Lionel encouraged him to try out again. He must now learn to believe in himself.

'Recipe for disaster'

Cam being the second platinum ticket winner to get eliminated after Kaylin Hedges made one fan think, "I think the platinum tickets put a bit too much pressure on contestants, I hope this is the last season they give 'em out." Another one observed, "WOW a second platinum, I think both deserved to go home but I can’t believe they did it." One fan suggested, "Get rid of platinum tickets." While mocking the judges, a fan wrote, "Lionel: “We gave you a platinum ticket yet you went into your head. What happened?”

One fans on Twitter expressed, "I think American idol was wrong in not putting Cameron through to the top 24 They loved him enough to give him the platinum ticket. So sad." Another one chimed in, "The track record of platinum ticket winners is pretty bad. I suspect the reduced competition participation because of the free skip hurts them in later rounds."

One noted, "I cannot stress this enough, the platinum ticket is a horrible idea." Calling it unfair, another fan wrote, "Tonite‘s proof U shud stop w/ the Platinum tkts cuz the judges clearly R not good enuf 2 predict consistency. Last season they forced Hunter girl thru even though she was ordinary & common. Let us decide. It’s not fair 2 the other contestants either."

One shocked fan wrote, "Shock they had balls to cut platinum ticket in cam..." They further added, "Next year no more platinum ticket #americanidol .. cam actually performing best of platinum ticket." Another person observed, "So basically majority of the platinum ticket holders didn’t make the top 24."
