Who was Matthew Gonzalez? ‘High Potential’ Season 2 Episode 17 pays emotional tribute
'High Potential' Season 2 Episode 7, titled 'Second Sunday', ended with a heartfelt tribute to a late member of the ABC crime drama's crew. After the credits rolled, the series dedicated the episode to Matthew Gonzalez, writing “In loving memory of Anthony Gonzalez.” The tribute probably had many viewers wondering who Gonzalez was and what happened to him.
At the time of writing, Gonzalez's role on the show is unclear, but it is safe to assume that he was one of the many members working behind the scenes. With multiple departments working tirelessly for the success of a show, many parts are split across a series' production, where individuals bring in their unique skill set to play their role in the making of a show. And Gonzalez appears to be one of the people who worked on the show. Tribute title cards are the series's way of honoring late members, recognizing their impact on the show. While the exact role of the person may not necessarily be divulged, the gesture surely is heartwarming.
In what comes as a welcome and brighter piece of news for 'High Potential' fans, the network has officially renewed the show for Season 3. Kaitlin Olson, Daniel Sunjata, Javicia Leslie, and Judy Reyes are all expected to reprise their roles. However, there will be a change behind the lens with original showrunner Todd Harthan stepping away from the show. Ahead of his departure, Harhan has teased Season 2 to be more of a personal journey for the characters, setting up a potential third season. "What we’re plotting and planning has a different flavor than what we did last year, Harhan told Deadline. "But I think it’s gonna be even more personal, even more propulsive, even more surprising than what we did in Season 1, because we’ve learned some things and the characters have gotten richer."
Created by Drew Goddard, 'High Potential' is based on the French series, HPI. The season aired in a new timeslot this season at 9 p.m. ET and opened to a whopping 12.3 million viewers across ABC, Hulu, and Disney. The series follows Olson as Morgan Gillory, an intellectually gifted woman who stuns the world by becoming a police consultant for the LAPD’s Major Crimes division. The ongoing season is set to end with Episode 18, titled 'Family Tree' on Tuesday, April 7.
