'Daredevil: Born Again' Season 2: Matt Murdock finds an unexpected ally — what to expect from episode 2
With its first episode airing on Tuesday, 'Daredevil: Born Again' Season 2 has already hinted that this time, things won't go down easily for Charlie Cox's Matt Murdock. The sophomore instalment pits the Man Without Fear against the overwhelming prowess of Vincent D'Onofrio's Kingpin. The latter has mobilized all of his forces under the veneer of his Mayor's office and has deployed the full weight of his Anti-Vigilante Task Force. To save the day, Murdock must now team up with an unlikely ally.
Season 2 kicked off with the sinking of the vessel known as the Northern Star, a vessel that was carrying an arsenal of military-grade ammunition. In the aftermath of the sinking, Fisk is quick to go after the sunken ship's Captain and First Mate to prevent them from divulging the details of the ship. Former Detective Cherry began his own investigation, determined to ensure the ship's witnesses do not succumb to attacks from Fisk's minions. Daredevil enters the scene just as Cherry is about to interrogate the ship's crew. Unfortunately, Murdock is distracted for an instant before being overpowered. Just when it seemed that the game was over for the Man Without Fear, Bullseye, otherwise known as Benjamin Poindexter, made a bombastic entry and saved him from harm's way.
It has long been speculated that the sophomore season of the Disney+ show will feature Bullseye's redemption arc, following his disgrace at the hands of Fisk. It must be kept in mind that Poindexter didn't start as a villain and wasn't inherently evil to begin with. After embracing Fisk as his mentor, Bullseye yielded to Fisk's manipulation. It was long, however, before Bullseye came to his senses and sought to exact revenge from Fisk, planning on two occasions to assassinate him.
As Season 2 brings him back as a free man, one might surmise that the upcoming second episode will further him along his course of redemption, which might include Bullseye teaming up with Murdock to take the fight to Fisk's backyard. This was further supported by a recent interview during which Wilson Bethel, the actor who plays Bullseye, said, "Where we find him at the beginning of Season 2 is with a renewed sense of purpose. He has a guiding light and what he perceives to be a redemption arc for himself. He’s a little misguided in his idea of what redemption looks like, but strictly from Dex’s perspective, this is his version of redemption." Moreover, the upcoming episode might also shed light on Mr. Charles' mysterious character, who is suggested to be working for the CIA. It's unlikely that Krysten Ritter's Jessica Jones will be introduced in the upcoming second episode. 'Daredevil: Born Again' season 2 airs new episodes every Tuesday on Disney+.
