'Daredevil: Born Again': Fisk's war and Jones' return — everything you need to know before watching Season 2
'Daredevil: Born Again' is a show that has the singular honour of finding itself at the intersection of several transitional phases. For starters, the show carries over the legacy of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Netflix years, when the 'Defenders' saga was at its peak. 'Daredevil: Born Again' is also noted for pivoting in a separate direction after several episodes had already been filmed, as was the case following Kevin Feige's decision to subject the show to a creative overhaul. They brought in Dario Scardapane as the new showrunner. As a result, the debut season of the show, featuring Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock, might have been pulled in several contradictory directions. The upcoming sophomore season, which premieres on March 24, is poised to undo that.
Season 1 kicked off with Foggy Nelson's tragic death at the hands of Bullseye and chronicled the rise of Vincent D'Onofrio's Wilson Fisk, aka the Kingpin, as he and his wife, Vanessa, consolidated their grip on the city. Kingpin eventually became the new mayor, vowing to bring down vigilantes as part of his Safe Streets initiative. He formed the Anti-Vigilante task force to solve the problem posed by the likes of Murdock, once and for all. On the other hand, Bullseye, who had been previously imprisoned, broke out of his cell and intended to assassinate Fisk at the Mayoral Ball.
Murdock stepped in at the right moment and saved Fisk, but Fisk repaid him by setting the task force on him. By the end of Season 1, Murdock had been able to escape from the clutches of the task force, while his ally, and Jon Bernthal's Punisher, was apprehended, thus setting the stage for another massive showdown in Season 2. Since the characters have already been introduced and the world of the show has been established, 'Daredevil: Born Again' can be expected to finally portray the undying enmity between Fisk and Murdock in the sophomore season. Joining forces with Murdock will be Krysten Ritter's Jessica Jones.
Speaking in this direction, Scardapane mentioned in an interview with The Ringer, "Jessica has been part of the conversation since when I started, she’s part of this particular world and, in this case, when you’re doing a story about ‘vigilantes are now being hunted,’ ‘vigilantes are now underdogs,’ what does that look like with that particular underdog? And that just puts a smile on a writer’s face." Elsewhere, both Karen Page and Bullseye will take up significant roles in the second installment. Additionally, the recently released teaser also confirmed the return of two of Fisk's most dependable allies, i.e., Daniel Blake and Buck Cashman. An elusive villain by the name of Mr. Charles can also be expected to wreak havoc.
