Taylor Sheridan is making a film based on Battle of Alamo but there’s a disappointing catch
'Yellowstone' fans may have known Taylor Sheridan, who co-created the neo-Western drama series. Sheridan, actor-turned-writer, will be directing an upcoming war film. As shared by the Texas Lieutenant Governor, he will be associated with writing and directing the film based on the Battle of the Alamo. It will be featured in the museum’s currently under-construction 4D theater, which is scheduled to open in 2027. Since co-creating 'Yellowstone,' followed by a prequel series, Sheridan has been a popular name among fans. This includes '1883', '1923', 'Marshals', 'Dutton Ranch', and more, with additional spin-offs currently in progress. With Sheridan’s experience in historic dramas, the film is sure to incorporate unique elements.
In the official statement, the Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick shared why he chose Sheridan for this particular project, “Once I saw the plan for the theater, I knew there was only one screenwriter, film producer, and director in the world to make this film for the Alamo Museum - Taylor Sheridan.” Sharing more about the Alamo battle film, he mentioned, “Over the last decade, Taylor has told the story of the American west – the people, the land, the depth, and the history – in a way no other filmmaker has. In addition to his amazing film portfolio, Taylor is a native Texan who knows and loves our state and its history.”
Furthermore, he recalled reaching out to Sheridan and asking him to consider directing and filming the historic project for the museum. In response, the 'Yellowstone' creator quickly agreed despite his busy schedule. Sheridan said, “The Alamo is the very bedrock Texas was founded upon. To chronicle the sacrifice made by the brave men and women who sacrificed their lives defending the Alamo is an honor I eagerly accept,” Sheridan said. The Lieutenant Governor described his involvement as a ‘big win’ for Texas. He added that the story of the battle would reach a vast audience through visitors to the museum. He also highlighted the role of the Board of the Alamo trust, which oversees the restoration plan, noting that they would undoubtedly be enthusiastic about the project.
In his January 4, 2024, appearance on the ‘PowerfulJRE’ podcast, Sheridan recalled some of the historical incidents that inspired one of the 'Yellowstone prequels', '1883.' He learned more about Texas’ independence, Native Americans, diseases spread at the time, and more. He mentioned, “Texas was its own Nation for 13-14 years and that independence is still pretty embedded in it.” Fans can stream 'Yellowstone' on Netflix and '1883' on Peacock.
