Towards the end of the season, the audience saw a one-year time jump and Oliver Putnam directing a Broadway show starring Charles-Haden Savage and a new character named Ben (Paul Rudd).
As Ben enters the stage, Charles gives him a long talk just before the curtain rises, and Ben collapses with blood oozing from his mouth.
