Is 'Unlocked: A Jail Experiment' a real jail experiment or scripted reality? Netflix to follow Arkansas inmates
LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS: Netflix has brought a brand new docu-series based on a social experiment, 'Unlocked: A Jail Experiment'. The upcoming Netflix show would provide the Arkansas inmates more freedom of decision-making and taking responsibility in the six-week jail experiment.
Although the upcoming Netflix docu-series is not scripted, some of the scenes may include the producer's edit. Pulaski County Sheriff Eric Higgins introduced the inmates to a new concept and unlocked the doors of a unit filled with felons inside the regional detention facility.
He stripped away the usual authority of deputies and entrusted agency and responsibility to the detainees themselves. The Netflix series would also feature a series of twists and turns with the newfound freedom. Eric would decide if his experiment can be implemented into his facility indefinitely.
Where was 'Unlocked: A Jail Experiment' filmed?
'Unlocked: A Jail Experiment' has been filmed in Pulaski County Regional Detention Facility, Arkansas. The eight-episode Netflix series explored the inside life of inmates and the struggles they deal with. However, with the given freedom the inmates could take the opportunity to win the reward or end up being a total disaster.
According to Netflix, the social experiment would test if more autonomy and less control in prisons could lead to a more community-oriented living environment. The experiment also aimed to better incarceration and discourage people from committing future crimes.
Pulaski County Sheriff Eric Higgins Inmates' challenges
Pulaski County Sheriff Eric Higgins wanted to transform incarceration at a Little Rock detention facility through a social experiment that would offer a true alternative for the men within the confined walls in Netflix's 'Unlocked: A Jail Experiment'. However, the sheriff recently reflected on the struggles faced by the prisoners.
In an interview with People, Eric shared about the upcoming Netflix show, "This series explores the challenges faced by jails and prisons, such as low staffing, overcrowding, and the negative stigma." The sheriff added, "Despite these difficulties, my team and I are working on new ways to improve our facility to create a safer environment for our employees and help those in our care through responsibility and accountability."
He elaborated, "Did we face obstacles? YES! However, I believe this journey will not only change the lives of the individuals involved but also challenge society's views on incarceration and rehabilitation."
'Unlocked: A Jail Experiment' will premiere on Wednesday, April 10 on Netflix.
