'Typical American Bollywood fan': 'Indian Matchmaking' star Vikash Mishra trolled for his bizarre demands
DAVIS, CALIFORNIA: The Netflix reality show that pairs Indian singles returns for a third season, this time reaching out to the South Asian diaspora in London. 'Indian Matchmaking' Season 3 gave viewers a look into the high expectations that Indian immigrants have for their future spouses.
As a reality show that shines a light on the age-old yet incredibly complicated practice of arranged marriages, Netflix's 'Indian Matchmaking' genuinely portrays Indian culture from every imaginable perspective. That's because it focuses on Mumbai's top matchmaker, Sima Taparia, as she tries her hardest to find perfect life companions for lovelorn individuals all over the world. In Season 3, one of them was ER doctor Vikash Mishra. He quickly became the butt of jokes as viewers saw him demand a Hindi-speaking wife while scarcely speaking Hindi to his parents or possible partners who could speak Hindi.

'Vivacious' Vikash
Vikash, a native of Davis, California, made it clear from the start that he was a loud and proud Indian-American who valued his ethnicity above all else. That's why he valued not just the fact that his probable soulmate was from the same culture, but also her knowledge of Hindi, appreciation for Bollywood, and understanding of family values. In fact, the almost 40-year-old's lengthy requirements list expressly said he hoped she'd be gorgeous, charming, lively, kind, vocal, optimistic, and tall as well.
Nonetheless, Vikash was fully aware that he had been single for so long as a result of the catastrophic mix of his intensive "work, waiting for the right person, and maybe being too picky." This stated pickiness was obvious in his unenthusiastic response to the three matches provided by Sima Taparia: Anjali Naskar, Sonia Patel, and Vinita Patel. The doctor eventually gave the former a try, but it didn't work out since he felt she was too young and too different for his liking — furthermore, she didn't speak Hindi at all. That's when Namrata Shah, an Indian-born lady, entered the scene, only for him to reject her as well since his ideal woman was American-born or raised (without an accent), moving on to Janki Kaneria.
'Vikash ur hindi sucks!!!! never speak it again'
Vikash, whose checklist includes all the typical items as well as the fact that he (maybe) wants a Brahmin girl and has a strange predilection for Hindi speakers, did not sit well with the viewers. One user asked, "Vikash is not serious. Anjali was amazing but she doesn't speak hindi. Okay. Namrata, again amazing, speaks Hindi but apparently she's too Indian for him??? Who is this guy? lol.:" Throwing a dig at his hindi speaking skills, one tweeted, "vikash ur hindi sucks!!!! never speak it again bald freak." Another chimed in, "Vikash: I rejected her because I was picking up on her being "very Indian" Bhaisaab? You are on #IndianMatchmaking what did you expect? Lebanese?" A fourth person wrote, "I don't know who Vikash thinks he's trying to fool acting like "community" and "caste" are interchangeable. Talking about he wants a Brahmin woman because of "community." Yeah, sure. Tryna be slick..."

He was not even spared on Reddit as people wrote, "So this dude wants someone who speaks Hindi but doesn’t want someone who has an accent and would very obviously speak better Hindi than him. Bffr! Just awful." One dubbed him a "typical american bollywood fan." One Redditor also commented, "Did you see what he did on the next date? I sense internalized prejudice. He said that Namrata is "too Indian." What does that even mean? He's the one obsessed with speaking Hindi and is into Bollywood. He also wants to find a person within his caste. He's kinda regressive even by modern Indian standards. So the first girl dodged a bullet." Calling out on his long list of demands, one wrote, "And has to be a BRAHMIN even though he doesn't follow any Brahmanic practices or rituals lol. Sima has a lot of issues but I'm really glad she called him out for that."
'Indian Matchmaking' Season 3 is available for streaming only on Netflix.
