TWICE’s Jihyo turns into the Mighty Thor, fans flex K-pop's ‘Queen of Asgard’

To celebrate the release of Marvel's 'Thor: Love and Thunder', Jihyo channels her inner superhero for her next magazine cover

While TWICE is one of the veteran groups of K-pop, fans were often surprised to learn that the members did not have solo careers. Leader Jihyo herself had shared that they were first focusing on the group and that they would not be going solo for the time being. For those members that wanted to experiment with their own colors, TWICE introduced the ‘Melody Project’ where the girls have been dropping their own song and dance covers. But it looks like 2022 is finally the year of the girls going solo as we got Nayeon’s debut album and Jihyo channeling her inner Thor.

We first had Jihyo becoming the first TWICE member to lend her voice for the OST of the popular K-drama ‘Twenty-Five Twenty-One’. While TWICE as a group has sung K-drama OSTs in the past, Jihyo released her solo OST ‘Stardust Love Song’ on March 6. A month later, in April, it was announced that Nayeon would become the first TWICE member to make her solo debut with the mini-album ‘Im Nayeon’. It is already turning heads as she roped in the likes of Little Mix’s Jade Thirlwall, Stray Kids’ Felix, Destiny Rogers and Wonstein. And now we have TWICE’s Jihyo gracing the cover of 1st Look magazine with a superhero concept.

Jihyo turns into Mighty Thor

Fans were absolutely shocked when 1st Look announced that TWICE’s leader Jihyo would be the cover star of July. With ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ finally turning Natalie Portman’s Jane into the Mighty Thor, the magazine decided to hype up the release by getting their very own Korean version. We first got a visual teaser of Jihyo wearing the female Thor helmet with lightning striking in the background. 1st Look then teased their back cover with Jihyo sporting a chained headgear and glittering bodycon dress against a space-themed background. The highlight is the TWICE leader effortlessly holding Thor’s hammer Mjolnir above her head and posing.

‘Going to save the world’

ONCEs (TWICE’s fandom) are excited for the photoshoot as one tweeted, “Jihyo once said she’ll be Thor. 3 years later she really became Thor. Manifesting really works!” Another joked, “Jihyo can lift the mjollnir, but thor could never do cheer up.” One fan added, “Chris hemsworth after jihyo thor.” Another ONCE reminded fans, “Jihyo was enjoying being Thor way too much she went running around torturing everyone.”

One fan shared, “JIHYO ENDED EVERYONE INCLUDING ME.” Another commented, “Someone took the god Jihyo thing and really ran with it.” One fan said, “QUEEN OF ASGARD PARK JIHYO.” Another ONCE shared, “THOR JIHYO GOING TO SAVE THE WORLD.” One fan wrote, “I'm on my knees for this woman. She's not god Jihyo for just nothing. She's indeed a goddess. Look how gorgeous and cool she is.”
