TWICE 'Formula of Love': K-pop girl group grabs historic No 3 spot on Billboard 200
Fans already knew that ’Formula of Love’ would be TWICE’s biggest comeback yet. Their third K-pop studio album was a commercial success even before release with their highest pre-order sales ever, selling 700,000 copies. And then, on the first day of the release, ‘Formula of Love’ had the highest first-day sales in 2021 among K-pop girl groups. According to Hanteo chart, they surpassed 238,000 in album sales. Even the music video for the title track, ‘Scientist’ did well as it trended at the #1 spot on YouTube’s worldwide trends list and crossed 16 million views in the first 24 hours. Now, the girls have made Billboard history.
‘Formula of Love’ charted exceedingly well as TWICE entered domestic, as well as international chart lists. They topped Bugs and charted high on FLO, MelOn and Genie. The album debuted at #6 on iTunes Worldwide Album Chart while ‘Scientist’ debuted at #12 on iTunes Worldwide Song Chart. The album also did well in the US as it was the second-best-selling album with over 58k in sales. TWICE also broke their own personal record and made history when ‘Formula of Love’ charted at the #3 spot on Billboard 200.

With ‘Formula of Love’ at #3 on Billboard 200, TWICE is the K-pop female act with the most entries on Billboard 200. They have four albums on the chart as ‘MORE & MORE’ was at #200, ‘Eyes wide open’ was at #72 and ‘Taste of Love’ debuted at #6. Earlier, TWICE also made another personal record as they entered the Billboard Hot 100 chart for the first time ever with their first English single, ‘The Feels’. It should also be noted that with their summer 2021 release — ‘Taste of Love’, TWICE had also become the first K-pop girl group to have a mini-album peak at #6 on Billboard 200.
With ‘Formula of Love’ at #3, TWICE is the second-highest K-pop female act on Billboard 200. They also became the first K-pop female act to have two albums in the top 10 of the Billboard 200 Chart. It’s further impressive as both albums, ‘Taste of Love’ and ‘Formula of Love’ charted in the same year, i.e., 2021. At the same time, in just nine days, ‘Formula of Love’ has also become TWICE’s fastest album to cross 100 million streams on Spotify. Even ‘Scientist’ debuted at #4 on YouTube’s global songs chart with over 40 million streams. The ‘Scientist’ music video, on the other hand, crossed 54 million views and 2.2 million likes on YouTube in 10 days.
