THE NEW FACES OF 'TODAY': Host Craig Melvin joined by new presenters as Al Roker and others miss episode
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: A lot of people start their day by getting a daily dose of morning news from their favorite news presenters. NBC’s ‘TODAY’ show has been a force to be reckoned and its news presenters have become some of the most influential names in the news industry. But viewers got a surprise when they couldn’t see their favorite news presenters on the latest episode of the aforementioned show.
Viewers were left shocked when Craig Melvin turned out to be the only original host during the latest episode as Al Roker, Sheinelle Jones, and Dylan Dreyer were missing from the set of NBC’s morning show. Craig began the episode with a “good morning” and introduced fans to his teammates who stepped in for his co-hosts. The two news correspondents that joined Craig for the latest episode were Jill Martin and Vicky Nguyen. After introducing both his colleagues, he went on to give the real reason why the original hosts of the ‘TODAY’ show were not present for the recent episode.

Al, Sheinelle, and Dylan were 'missing from the show
Craig noted that Roker couldn’t join because of a ‘knee surgery’ while Dylan has gone out for an assignment. On the other hand, Sheinelle is in Wichita, Texas, for something “really exciting.”
“[Jill and Vicky] are here because Al is out on knee surgery, we're wishing him a speedy recovery. Dylan is on assignment...and our girl Sheinelle Jones is back with her people in Wichita, Texas, with something really exciting,” Craig said.
Sheinelle did make an appearance later in the show and was hosting a segment from a school in Wichita, Texas. The nation is celebrating ‘Teacher Appreciation Week’ and Sheinelle gave one of her teachers a surprise by giving her two tickets to the Pittsburgh Steelers game.
Al's 'knee problems' are giving him nightmares
Although Dylan and Sheinelle are out on assignments, Al’s absence from the show is much more critical than any assignment. The news presenter was absent on Tuesday’s episode of the morning show as he underwent knee replacement surgery. On Saturday, May 6th, Al announced that he will be getting his surgery and was limping while walking. In the video shared by Al, he noted that he was “three days away” from getting his left knee replaced and indicated that this will be his “last walk” before the replacement.
“Well, hope everyone's having a great day. It's a gorgeous Saturday here in Central Park and I'm a little less than three days away from getting this left knee replaced. It's a replacement of a replacement. And so I am kind of limping through. So, this is probably my last walk of any significance before the knee, but it was just such a gorgeous day I had to get out and enjoy it,” Al said during the video.
‘TODAY’ viewers wished him a speedy recovery and said that they can’t wait for him to come back.
Al has been dealing with a lot of health problems in recent times and viewers got to see how uncomfortable he was when he exercised LIVE on television in April. In one of the fitness segments, the hosts of ‘TODAY’ exercised and tried pushing themselves to the extreme. However, things got really bad for Al who was having difficulties in standing up after a quad roll. At first, he tried to make it look like he was acting, but later it was quite evident that Al was having difficulties standing up after the exercise.
We hope to see Al back on the show soon.
