Looks like the face-off between Katherine Ann Mohler and Vaughn Mugol did not go down well with the Internet after the latter was evicted from the battle round of ‘The Voice’ Season 21. The day two of the battles witnessed a lot of drama as a few deserving ones headed back home but the most shocking news came in the form of Vaughn not making it to the knockouts.

Ariana Grande’s team members Katherine and Vaughn locked horns on Nelly and Kelly Rowland’s hit single ‘Dilemma’. A lot of social media users felt that Vaughn was set up for failure deliberately by Ariana adding that ‘Dilemma’ was a horrible song choice. In his blind auditions, Vaughn managed to wow John Legend, Ariana Grande, and Kelly Clarkson after he showcased his rendition of Ed Sheeran’s ‘The A-Team’. He had ultimately picked Ariana in the blinds. However, the battle round proved to be a disappointment for the contestant as everything went wrong for him.

Did Ariana Grande set up Vaughn Mugol for failure?

After getting a few helpful pointers from Ariana Grande and her adviser Kristin Chenoweth, Katherine Ann Mohler and Vaughn Mugol showed their singing abilities on the main stage. While John Legend and Blake Shelton leaned towards Katherine, Kelly extended her support to Vaughn. Before picking Katherine as the winner of this battle round, Ariana told Vaughn, “I loved seeing you stepping into this completely new persona and your voice is so sweet and what you offer here is so incredible and this is really difficult for me.”

Blake, who never heard the song before felt Katharine gave the performance “that extra little bit” whereas, John Legend loved how Ariana took both the singers out of their comfort zone. While Ariana ultimately went for Katherine, the rest of the judges refrained from stealing Vaughn for their teams. Speaking to the camera backstage, Ariana spoke about Katherine saying, “Katherine is such an incredible student for music.”

‘Why did Ari make Vaughn rap when he has good vocals?’

Social media users thronged to Twitter as they slammed Ariana Grande for going wrong with Vaughn. “Why I feel like Vaughn was set up for failure”, said one user as another pitched in and stated, “Love ari with all my heart, but what is she doin on the voice??? Pretty much set up Vaughn for failure when he should’ve gone to the finals.” The next one asserted, “Ariana set up the Vaughn to lose and the Caucasian one to win. Race definitely was the deciding factor. POCs should never pick a coach with Italian heritage. Never ever. You be going home first!”

Meanwhile, another user tweeted, “Someone definitely should have saved Vaughn” and one user got furious and added, “I will never forget how wrong they did vaughn…NEVER.” Another stunned individual shared, “How you just not gonna save Vaughn!!?????? A ROBBERY.” One user said, “That Dilemma performance was one of the worst song choices in #TheVoice in years. First, both artists aren't black to give justice to the song. Second, and why did Ari make Vaughn rap when he has good vocals? Come on Ari.” One stated, “WTF Horrible choice of a song and letting Vaughn go is tragic.” While, one chimed in to conclude, “The way that Vaughn was not chosen-THE DISRESPECT!”
