LOS ANGELES., CALIFORNIA: It was pretty easy for ‘The Masked Singer’ Season 9 fans to guess Pentatonix was under the California Roll mask. And the same happened to be true when the masked singer was eliminated and unmasked in the semifinal episode. With California Roll being eliminated, Medusa and Macaw moved ahead to the final round.

The Wednesday night episode had no special guests or themes as it was incredible in its own way. California Roll kicked off the stage, singing ‘Breakaway’ by Kelly Clarkson. All three contestants then moved ahead to perform in the Battle Royale round, singing their own rendition of ‘Runaway Baby’ by Bruno Mars. As soon as California Roll singers added their harmony to their song, fans instantly guessed it to be Pentatonix.

Clues for California Roll

California Roll mask first appeared on New York Night episode. Back then, a bunch of clues were revealed for this masked singer. Dressed as sushi, this masked singer had a group of five members in its tea. The members revealed they have appeared on ‘Broadway.’ The clue package had a ‘group project’ book in it, a caricature of a tiger, and a ‘5 Billion and growing’ hint. And, the other thing revealed for this group was they are “married.” The other clue revealed for this group was that they “DJ-ed all night long” before heading to Hollywood and have worked with Dolly Parton and Snoop Dogg.

Further, in the semifinal round, more significant clues were revealed for the California Roll mask. One of the singers in the clue package voiceover was seen saying, “I think I speak for all of us that it’s really exciting to be here in the semi-finals. Because we love a little friendly competition, and it’s really nice to flex that creative muscle right now. It’s definitely a full-circle moment..” He added, “While we were rehearsing and filming, I felt like we were having flashbacks to the first time we performed together. I’m even having some of the same anxiety as before.” The singer remembered having the same nervousness when he was backstage for dinging ‘Uptown Girl.’ Another clue revealed was that the group once performed at the White House and bagged a “standing O.”

California Roll is Pentatonix

California Roll was eliminated and unmasked to be Pentatonix, including five singers. The group is popular for its pop-style arrangements with vocal harmonies. Formed in 2011, this group bags 20 million subscribers and 5.9 billion views. The Broadway clue was a hint towards vocalist Kirstin Maldonado making her Broadway debut: the Tony-winning Kinky Boots in the role of Lauren. The group of five worked with Snoop Dogg in ‘Happy Holidays’ and ‘Pitch Perfect 2.’ Moreover, Pentatonix has sung at the White House on multiple occasions. They were even recruited to help promote Covid 19 vaccine boosters by the White House.

The panelists guessed California Roll right as one of their guesses was Pentatonix. Now, Medusa and Macaw will be seen competing with each other in final round.

'The Masked Singer' Season 9 Episode 13 will release on May 17 at 8 pm ET on Fox.
