'SM Treat Ten Better': Fans ask to bring NCT star home over Covid outbreak in Shanghai

Fans are also pointing out other instances SM allegedly mistreated Ten

K-pop idol Ten has been having an exciting year as he is traveling all over China with exclusive solo gigs. Ten of the K-pop groups NCT, WayV and SuperM has been roped in as ambassadors for major brands like Charlotte Tilbury. He has also been appearing on Chinese variety shows and was a special judge on the dance survival show ‘Street Dance of China’. The Thai-born idol’s latest gig now happens to be a mentor on the female dance survival show ‘Great Dance Crew’.

Unfortunately, since April 24, it has been reported that there has been a sudden rise in Covid-19 cases in Shanghai where Ten is currently residing. The NCT star had also shared that he was currently in lockdown. And while on April 29, Shanghai eased their sudden lockdown, fans are afraid for Ten who has been in the city for almost 8 months for ‘Great Dance Crew’ which is constantly being postponed. He went on Instagram Live on April 24 and shared that he was doing alright during the lockdown but his bucket list was to go home to Thailand and that he also missed his NCT members and wanted to dance with them to NCT Dream’s latest release ‘Glitch Mode’.

Fans ask for better treatment of Ten

It has also been a while since Ten was in South Korea. Fans hoped that he could come home or go to his home country, Thailand while Shanghai has a lockdown. NCT fans have been trending #SMTreatTENBetter as they hope that his label, SM Entertainment takes some action for Ten’s safety. Due to SM’s silence on the matter, frustrated fans have now gone on to also point out the alleged mistreatment of Ten. They shared how SM did not promote Ten’s solo track ‘Paint Me Naked’ even when it topped iTunes internationally or how he was constantly missing during SuperM promotions.

‘Bring him back’

Fans have taken on to tweet SM, “SM Entertainment Please Treat Ten Better and Bring him back to Korea where is safer for him right now. The situation in Shanghai is getting worse. We are very worried about his safety. Please, Pay Great Attention to him and the Petition from the Fans.” Another fan brought receipts of Ten’s mistreatment, “Please treat TEN better.” One NCTzen posted, “Ten’s mental health is important . He  just live in the narrow room  for many days or months or sth. Do u have cotton b/w your ears??? the situation in Shanghai is being serious right now. Pls bring him back to Korea.” 

Another said, “Wait he's in lockdown in shanghai ??? let the boi go home already.” One fan clarified, “Nobody's asking Ten to go and break quarantine laws, we're asking for the company to have a health/safety plan in place for him and show that they're adequately caring for him while he's there in Shanghai, but apparently this is too hard of a concept to grasp.” Another said, “Ten wants to perform at a concert. Ten wants to go home to his family. go play with his cat My hope is for the label to help with something. If you can't bring him back help him with food Can you help me find a gig for him to do? I'm very worried about him.” A fanbase went as far as to create a petition, “TEN THAILAND would like to represent TEN's Thai fans. To express concern for Ten and claim against Ten's agency @SMTOWNGLOBAL with the following issues.”

'Do you care about his reputation?'

However, there are some fans who feel it would be irresponsible for Ten to leave the city due to his commitment to the dance show, “Trending a ht to bring him back to kr? Again? After seeing the recognition he gained from the audience just 2 eps in? And after he did 2 lives to share his excitement for his stage & the show? Ur not doing it for his good. It’s just imposing things from ur own excessive analysis.”

Another fan shared, “Exactly! sure this lockdown isn't the best situation to be in but, not for ten and not for anyone else in shanghai. but they also need to admit that he's in a better situation than a lot of other people, who don't have food to cook themselves a meal every day.” One added, “Go read some articles about Shanghai’s lockdown situation, if you care enough you won’t ask to bring Ten back to Korea. Afterall, he still has unfinished work, its very unprofessional if he suddenly leaves. Do you care about his reputation?”
