Spoilers for ‘Silo’ Episode 2 ‘Holston’s Pick’

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Apple TV+ has released the first two episodes of its latest dystopian sci-fi series, ‘Silo’ and we are hooked! After the previous episodes, there were hints about what might happen in ‘Silo’ Episode 2, but things have gotten a lot more complicated than one would have expected. Unless you have read the book series by Hugh Howey. Nevertheless, ‘Silo’ Episode 2 starts with Holston leaving the Silo but the rest of the episode focuses on Juliette Nichols.

Rebecca Furguson is an important part of ‘Silo’ and viewers might have been a little thrown off by her lack of screen time in the first episode. But ‘Silo’ Episode 2 definitely makes up for it as she portrays the character of Juliette Nichols, a strong-headed engineer. Undoubtedly, Juliette is going to be the anchor for the rest of the episodes, making up for the absence of Rashida Jones’ character, Allison Becker.

What does Juliette find out?

In ‘Silo’ Episode 2, we find out that Juliette was involved in an unsanctioned romantic relationship with George Wilkins, whose death was revealed in the pilot episode. She goes through a breakdown after she hears from the grapevine that George was found dead, but once she collects herself, Juliette is determined to find out what happened to her boyfriend. His death was ruled out as a suicide, but Juliette knows that isn’t the case. Before he was murdered, George tried telling Juliette about his findings about what lies outside Silo, but before he had a chance, he was found dead. If that doesn’t raise suspicion, we don’t know what does!

Juliette gets help from an unlikely source, Sheriff Holston, as the two of them make their way to the depths of Silo. In spite of being the Sheriff, there are places even Holston hasn’t seen, which touches on the fact that there is a lot more to Silo as a city than the 144 stories that we see. As Juliette and Holston make their way down, Juliette helps make Holston understand that George was murdered. Between this interaction, Juliette also realizes that Holston had an ulterior motive of following her down here since George and Allison worked together before Allison wanted to go out of Silo.

Despite a little spat, Holston promises to help Juliette out, but that never happens because he ends up leaving Silo altogether. What Juliette doesn’t know is that Holston has recommended her as the next Sheriff, and when that happens, she will have access to a wider range of things, which will help her uncover the secrets. So, in many ways, Holston did indeed help her, but Juliette is unaware. Instead, she takes matters into her own hand and throws George’s longest rope into the water, to see what’s down there…but things don’t go as planned. It is literally and figuratively a cliffhanger.

What happens to Sheriff Holston?

Now this is where your mind and ‘Silo’ might play tricks on you. Holston steps out of Silo as he cleans the filter. From Holston’s perspective, he’s in a green land and things are more than fine, and Allison’s dead body isn’t visible. However, from the perspective of the residents in Silo, he stumbles and falls, crawling to his wife’s dead body before he dies. This is an interesting subplot and raises a lot of questions, that we can only hope Juliette finds the answers to in the coming episodes!

You can stream the first two episodes of ‘Silo’ on Apple TV+ from May 5, 2023.
