LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Apple TV+ has been on a streak of brilliance when it comes to series in 2023. Whether you’re thinking about ‘Shrinking,’ ‘Extrapolations,’ ‘Hello Tomorrow!’ or even the latest season of ‘Ted Lasso', Apple TV+ has knocked it out of the park this year, and it intends to keep up that quality of work for its viewers, which brings us to its dystopian science-fiction series, ‘Silo.’

If the name sounds familiar to you, chances are you are a fan of Hugh Howey and his work, which truly deserves all the recognition. Although ‘Silo’ should have made it to your screens a while ago, after going through different networks, it has finally landed on Apple TV+ and science-fiction fans couldn’t be more thrilled about this. Off late, a lot of movies and series are adapted from books, or at least draw inspiration from them, and ‘Silo’ falls under that category too!

'Silo' on Apple TV: Release date and how to watch the dystopian sci-fi drama series

What book is Apple TV+’s ‘Silo’ based on?

As mentioned before, ‘Silo’ is based on a book series, and while some adaptations miss the mark of excellence, this TV show is ready to set itself apart. Hugh Howey wrote a total of nine books, which encompass ‘Silo’. With Apple TV+’s format of the usual 10 episodes, we are certain the series won’t be able to touch on all these books, but that could mean future seasons, and that’s definitely an exciting idea! For now, focusing on the books, they are divided into three parts – Wool, Shift, and Dust. The first five books are ‘Wool,’ the next three are ‘Dust’ and the final one is ‘Shift'.

It will be interesting to see this book-to-screen adaptation primarily to gauge how the creators are going to divide the events that take place in the book, onto the screen. Now, for those of you who haven’t heard of ‘Silo’ before, the story takes place on post-apocalyptic Earth, and Silo is the name of the city which extends to 144 stories underground, where people cling on to the sliver of hope that they will survive.

All the residents of Silo are made to understand and believe that the world outside this city is incredibly deadly and toxic, and anyone who tries to, or wishes to escape, doesn’t really make it back alive. This forces a few of the residents to begin uncovering the mystery behind Silo and all the secrets that lie within, and the reality that surrounds them on the outside.

The characters from book-to-screen

Some of the characters who have appeared in the original books and will make an appearance in Apple TV+’s ‘Silo’ are Holston, Juliette, Bernard, Martha Walker, and Lukas. These are only some of the main characters who will be adapted onto the screen. The TV series is written by Graham Yost and directed by Morten Tyldum, who will exercise their creative liberty of making the necessary changes to ensure that ‘Silo’ fits well on Apple TV+!

‘Silo’ begins on Apple TV+ on May 5, 2023.
