'Promised Land' Episode 2: Mateo gets a trump card over Joe as Antonio sniffs about

Episode 4 opens with Joe (John Ortiz) finding out his brother Billy aka Father Ramos (Yul Vazquez) is back in town and has been for a while now. He finds him in the church with his wife Lettie who knew of his arrival in Sonoma. Confronting him about how long he has been in town he plants a punch on Billy's face upon learning that it's been a month. Furious at his wife and brother he leaves in a huff, disregarding her.

Later on, we see Carmen (Mariel Molino) invite Margaret (Bellamy Young) for her birthday party which her siblings disapprove of since she abandoned them as kids. The whole day Joe doesn't speak to Lettie (Cecilia Suarez) and is standoffish towards her. At the party when Margaret tells him that it reminded her of their wedding and asks him to dance with her, he does so after seeing that Lettie is watching. At night after the party, Lettie confronts him and begs for his forgiveness. She apologizes for lying and not telling him about Billy being back. She tearfully assures him that nothing happened between them, but the two do share a history and son, so these lies hurt Joe badly. She also asks Joe to be more open to which he sadly replies and points out the irony of what she's asking of him. He tells her he put his faith in her and the trust was one thing that's could rely on but she broke it. He leaves telling her that he doesn't think they can get that trust back.

Towards the end of the episode, we see Margaret in the church giving a confession to Billy aka Father Ramos who's on the other side of the box. She confesses to bribing a church official into transferring a certain priest to Sonoma as she gives a devious smile. Seems like the cunning ex-wife has many tricks up her sleeve and one of her main attacks is to destroy Joe and Lettie's relationship.

'Promised Land' returns with a new episode on Monday at 10/9 C on ABC. You can stream it on Hulu as well.
