Pentagon Hongseok announces military enlistment date, fans joke ‘don’t go just yet’

Hongseok is now the third member of the boy group, after Hui and Jinho, who will enlist in the military

Just as fans were expecting more updates about Pentagon's upcoming fan meeting from Cube Entertainment, the label announced that 27-year-old Hongseok will soon be enlisting in the military. Hongseok is now the third of the seven Korean members in the boy group to announce his military enlistment. While the Chinese and Japanese members, Yanan and Yuto, are exempted from military enlistment, Pentagon’s Hui and Jinho are the other two members who are currently serving in the Korean Military. 

On April 1, one month ahead of his enlistment, Pentagon’s lead vocalist Hongseok shocked fans by announcing that he would soon depart to complete his military enlistment. While fans of K-pop are on edge as it was rumored that K-pop idols like members of BTS could be exempted from military enlistment, they re considering the possibility of more idols being allowed to delay their imminent military service. But as Hongseok finally announced the date of his departure, Universe (fans of Pentagon) are now sending him best wishes.

Pentagon’s Hongseok to join the military in May

In their official statement announcing Hongseok’s enlistment, Cube Entertainment revealed that the Pentagon member will depart for his military enlistment on May 3. Hongseok is now the third member of Pentagon after leader Hui and oldest member Jinho to enlist. Jinho began the boy group’s military era when he enlisted in the army as an active-duty soldier back in 2020. While Jinho was discharged in November of 2021, Hui, the leader of the boy group, is still serving as a social worker.

1994 liner Hongseok will follow in Jinho's footsteps as he will be working as an active on-duty soldier. With Hongseok’s enlistment, members Shinwon, Yeo One, Kino, and Wooseok are the only Korean-born members yet to enlist. Other than being an actively promoting K-pop idol, Hongseok is also known for his acting appearances; he last appeared in K-drama ‘Blue Birthday’ as well as web series ‘Shadow Beauty’, and is soon to appear in the Kakao TV drama web series ‘Aqua Man’ which will drop soon.

As soon as the news dropped announcing Hongseok's bittersweet enlistment, fans started sending best wishes to the singer. One fan said, "Hongseok you've worked really hard throughout all this time, both with your pentagon family that for your personal goals. if the time to enlist has come i hope it's a chance for you to be able to slown down and have some moments of healing, rest and new discoveries." One emotional fan said, "Hongseok please don't go just yet."

One fan joked, "Why a 04 liner has to enlist?? justice for hongseok." Another chimed in saying, "Hongseok we want you to make waffle everyday pls don’t go." One fan said, "NOOOOOOOOOOO DON'T GO HONGSEOK-AAAAAAA." Another fan said, "Obvs knew he was gonna enlist this year but still devastated." One delusional fan who thinks it's an April Fool's prank said, "Hongseok is 04 liner. It's bad to joke about enlistment cube. Don't do this to my heart."
