PALM BEACH, FLORIDA: 'Palm Royale', a highly-anticipated period comedy series, made its debut on Apple TV+, on March 20, 2024.
The series based on Juliet McDaniel's novel 'Mr and Mrs American Pie' revolves around Maxine Simmons (Kristen Wiig), an outsider struggling to fit into the Palm Beach high society.
While she mingles with the elite women of the society, she awaits her husband's aunt Norma Dellacorte (Carol Burnett ) to die to finally inherit her wealth.
Maxine Rollins shifts to Dellacorte mansion in 'Palm Royale'
After being evicted from the motel due to unpaid bills, Maxine's spirits lift when she discovers she's the lead story in Shiny Sheet. She pays a visit to the Graymans to flaunt her newfound fame to the other women.
However, her pride backfires when the women take offense and decide to visit Maxine's residence for a cocktail party to see where she lives.
With limited time until the party, Maxine barges into the Dellacorte residence and starts organizing the evening, facing opposition from Robert (Ricky Martin), Norma's caretaker.
With the help of Linda (Laura Dern), Maxine hastily puts together the cocktail party. Yet, despite her efforts, the evening doesn't unfold as planned.
The women scoff at Maxine's talk about the upcoming Beach Ball and criticize every idea she presents, leaving Maxine feeling disheartened and humiliated.
Evelyn Rollins tells Maxine Simmons about the inheritance in 'Palm Royale'
After the other ladies leave, Evelyn Rollins (Allison Janney) stays to question Maxine about her financial status. Maxine fibs, claiming she's well-off, and explains her plan to inherit wealth once Norma dies, with Douglas Dellacorte (Josh Lucas) as the heir.
However, Evelyn shatters Maxine's illusions by revealing that Norma's money will actually fund a trust for the Palm Beach Pedigree Feline Society.
She discloses her close bond with Norma and asserts that Douglas is the last person Norma would entrust with her inheritance.
Evelyn informs Maxine that she'll host the Beach Ball at the Dellacorte Mansion, offering Maxine a nominal fee to save face.
Displeased with this turn of events, Maxine pleads with Evelyn, who proposes a deal: if Maxine can find the key to the safe deposit box and retrieve the Rolodex, they can do business.
In the closing scenes, Linda prepares to depart after spending the night with Robert, holding the coveted Rolodex in her hands, hinting at intrigue to come.
