Oscars 2024: Legendary musician Slash's cameo dubbed 'iconic' as he joins Ryan Gosling during his 'I'm Just Ken' performance

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Ryan Gosling took center stage at the 96th Academy Awards, delivering an entertaining and star-studded performance on "I'm Just Ken" from his film, 'Barbie'.

Ryan invited multiple stars to sing along with him but the most unexpected cameo saw legendary musician Slash join him on the stage.

Gosling performed with Mark Ronson, Simu Liu, Ncuti Gatwa, and Kingsley Ben-Adir. The actor later jumped into the crowd for a group performance with director Greta Gerwig, stars Margot Robbie and America Ferrera, as well as 'Poor Things' lead Emma Stone.

Although the song failed to win an Oscar nod, Gosling made sure that the audience and viewers would remember it forever. A big credit for the success of Gosling's performance goes to Guns N' Roses guitarist Slash, who sent the audience into a frenzy after suddenly popping up during the performance.

Fans dubbed Gosling and Slash as an iconic duo and called their Oscar performance the 'best moment' of the night.

A social media user tweeted, "He and the rest of the Kens delivered THEE performance/moment of the night! The whole crowd was having so much fun. And OMG Slash?! Iconic! Gosling really nailed it." Another person added, "All 4 films I worked on lost @ the Oscars, but that Ryan Gosling/Slash duet FELT like a win!"

A critic noted, "I am living for @RyanGosling and @Slash! oscars." Another internet user penned, "NOT on my bingo card.....Slash jamming with Ryan Goslin on 'I'm Just Ken.'" A fan said, "Without a doubt the best moment of the evening !!! Thanks for everything @RyanGosling." Another viewer noted, "Best moment at this year's Oscars: Ryan Gosling performing ‘I’m Just Ken’ from the movie Barbie, including a fantastic guitar solo by Slash." One X user stated, "Slash just showing up at the Oscars for I’m just Ken is so iconic."

Ryan Gosling reflects on performing at Oscars 2024

'Barbie' star performed live at the Oscars 2024, leaving everyone amazed with his iconic performance. Gosling wasn't sure if he could pull off the performance but he surprisingly did. 

He recently expressed his nervousness about performing live during an interview with Variety. He said: "It might be too much of a risk to have me do it." The actor added, "I don't know how that would work. But I'm open to it."

The 80s-style ballad by Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt's 'I'm Just Ken' is about the male fragility of Ken who has no purpose without his Barbie.

Gosling reflected on playing the character, stating, "It's the hardest role I've ever had to play." He continued, "It was like a high-wire act, in tiny shorts and no shirt, with no net."

Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt ditch 'Barbenheimer' rivalry

Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt have been longtime friends but the duo sparked the friendly rivalry after their films, 'Oppenheimer' and 'Barbie' were released at the same time.

However, the duo put the 'Barbenheimer' rivalry to rest at the 2024 Oscars. Blunt was nominated for her supporting role in 'Oppenheimer,' while Gosling was up for his supporting work in 'Barbie'.

The duo's friendly rivalry was seen on the Academy Awards stage as they presented a tribute to stunt work in the movies.

Gosling shared, "I'm just happy we can finally put this 'Barbenheimer' rivalry behind us." Blunt agreed and noted, "Here's Ken and Kitty, just leaving all that fodder in the dust." She jokingly took a dig at Gosling, "And the way this awards season's turned out, it wasn't that much of a rivalry. So just let it go!"
