There's more of Helen Sharpe's (Freema Agyeman) past in Episode 6 of 'New Amsterdam'. Episode 5 showed her troubled childhood and the strained relationship with her parents in her argument with Dr Frome (Tyler Labine). However, the upcoming episode is all set to be another blast from the past for Sharpe.

Titled 'Laughter and Hope and a Sock in the Eye', the official synopsis reads: "10/26/2021 (10:01 PM – 11:00 PM) (Tuesday): Dr. Reynolds and Dr. Malvo have a heart-to-heart with Dr. Baptiste. Max learns a little more about Sharpe when someone from her past resurfaces. Iggy plays referee between two young patients and their families. Dr. Wilder reconsiders Max’s offer to join the staff. Will Helen Sharpe's ex make an appearance?

Twitter theories suggested that it would be Helen's ex. Soon after the promo of the new episode aired, one of the tweets read: "THE PATIENT IS GONNA BE HELEN’S EX OH MY DEAR LORD JESUS CHRIST #NEWAMSTERDAM." When asked why the fan replied: "well her ex comes back this ep and i think bts showed him as a patient so i just figured."

At the moment it is unclear if this is actually a valid theory, but it cannot be entirely discarded either. The promo also sees Dr. Wilder (Sandra Mae Frank). Previously she had declined the offer of working at New Amsterdam, however, there seems to be a change of heart as she is seen performing what appears to be a complex surgery. At the moment, the series shows each character involved in their own battles and the arrival of Dr Veronica Fuentes (Michelle Forbes) has just shaken up the entire New Amsterdam family.

Ahead of the season, showrunner David Schulner told TVLine: “Young, talented and self-assured, Dr. Wilder is one of the few deaf surgeons in New York City. She’s also one of the best surgeons, period. But when Max tries to lure her to New Amsterdam, she refuses to join his team."

"Many times, in fact. In high demand all over the country, what’s it going to take to get Dr. Wilder to practice at this fabled hospital? And who is she replacing? These are just a few of the questions that will be answered in the season premiere.”

'New Amsterdam' airs Tuesdays at 10 pm ET on NBC.
