'New Amsterdam' Season 4: Fans find Lauren's bond with her mom 'beautiful and sad'

Lauren and her mother Jeanie Bloom (Gina Gershon) have a troubled relationship that sees the former have a breakdown

It was an emotionally charged episode of 'New Amsterdam' as 'This be The Verse' saw multiple plotlines that practically pitted the core members of New Amsterdam (temporarily NAH!) against each other. It was Helen vs Iggy, Max vs Fuentes, Reynolds vs Fuentes, and Lauren vs Leyla. The last act, however, was the one that had fans heartbroken when Lauren's mother entered the picture just to cause the doctor to have a major breakdown.

Lauren and her mother Jeanie Bloom (Gina Gershon) have a troubled relationship with the latter having an addiction to alcohol and pills. When she heads to New Amsterdam to get a prescription, Lauren feels her mother was up to her usual antics where she would just use stomach pain as an excuse to get the pills and refers to her as a "pillhead". It doesn't help Lauren that Leyla starts treating her mother and even conducts an ultrasound that reveals an Endometriosis. The revelation sees Lauren attempt to fix the fractured bond with her mother.

Fans were all about the relationship between the mother and the daughter. "Mama Bloom and Lauren I do not blame her for acting that way with her mother, she has made so many mistakes with her daughter, that no one would believe her #leyren #NewAmsterdam," read one of the tweets. "Okay, Lauren apologized but her mom should have too. #leyren #NewAmsterdam," read another. "Lauren acknowledging her mistake and apologizing to her mother. I cried together #NewAmsterdam," another wrote.

"I can't express enough how much I loved that scene between Bloom and her mom. It's so important for Lauren's journey and healing. It doesn't wipe the slate clear but it helps her. "This scene between Lauren and her mom…. Right in the heart. #NewAmsterdam," a fan remarked. "I understand Lauren being this not trusting her mother. I can't imagine what she went through as what we have seen from the last 2 seasons. Im just thankful Leyla is there now to help her girlfriend and the mother. #Leyren #NewAmsterdam," a comment said.
